Dutchmen Baseball Posts Win Over Moravian with Balanced Effort

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Tyler Satterfield hit a two-run home run during a four-run bottom of the first inning for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team, helping fuel the program's 10-3 victory over Moravian University on Wednesday, April 15, at McGill Field.

The Flying Dutchmen received contributions from several members of their lineup, as all nine batters scored a run and six players had an RBI. Satterfield, Kody Phillips, and Spencer Butz were among the pivotal performers, recording two RBIs each. Owen Berry also had a productive day at the plate and stole two bases to bring his career total to 42, tying the program's career record. LVC's pitchers were stellar as well, combining for 10 strikeouts. Sam Forry delivered a game-high three strikeouts in his relief appearance.

Nate Savage started on the mound for the Dutchmen (13-19) and began the game with a scoreless top of the first inning. The program got out of the frame when catcher Joey Santora caught a popout in foul territory, stranding runners on second and third base. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, taking an early 4-0 lead over the Greyhounds (11-16). The program quickly loaded the bases with no outs on a leadoff double to left-center field by Berry, a walk for John Teehan, and a single to left-center by Phillips. Butz then came through with an RBI fielder's choice to second base, plating Berry. With runners on the corners, Butz stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher, allowing Teehan to score. Satterfield followed this by launching a two-run homer over the wall in left-center field, bringing in Butz.

Savage posted another zero LVC in the top of the second, picking up a strikeout in the process. Parker Tarnoci then entered the contest for the Flying Dutchmen in the top of the third inning, and the junior blanked Moravian during a frame that included two strikeouts. The team notched the third out of the frame when Santora threw out a runner attempting to steal third base. Tarnoci delivered another strong inning for Lebanon Valley in the top of the fourth, maintaining the program's lead by logging a double play for the first two outs and a flyout to Butz in center field.

Jack Johnson tossed a 1-2-3 top of the fifth inning for the Dutchmen, recording a groundout the pitcher fielded himself, a lineout to Berry at shortstop, and a flyout to Butz in right-center field. Lebanon Valley had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth, as Berry led off with a hit-by-pitch before stealing second and third base. The Greyhounds then got on the board in the top of the sixth, narrowing their deficit to 4-3 on a three-run home run.

The Flying Dutchmen answered back with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 10-3 advantage. The club loaded the bases with a single to left field by Santora, a single through the left side by Will Plappert, and a hit-by-pitch for Luca Santoro. Matthew Kendall then drew a walk with the bases full, plating Santora. Berry followed this with a sacrifice fly to center field, knocking in Plappert. Teehan also hit an RBI single down the right-field line, bringing home Santoro. Phillips then drove a two-run double off the wall in left-center field, scoring Kendall and Teehan. Butz capped off the big frame with an RBI single down the right-field line, allowing Phillips to cross the dish.

Jonathan Klein came out of the bullpen to pitch for Lebanon Valley in the top of the seventh inning, and the senior ended the frame with a groundout to Plappert at second to leave runners at first and second base. Forry then came into the game to pitch for the Dutchmen in the top of the eighth, and the first-year retired the side in order with a flyout to Kendall in left field and two strikeouts. Forry later secured LVC's victory with a scoreless top of the ninth inning, recording the final out with a flyout to Santoro in right field to strand runners on first and second base.
