Dutchmen Baseball Takes On Nationally Ranked Johns Hopkins

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Parker Tarnoci and Owen Berry each hit a double for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team, as the program dropped a 19-1 decision to No. 4 Johns Hopkins University in seven innings on Tuesday, March 24, at McGill Field. Adam Jirik also recorded an RBI for LVC, while Daniel Palmieri scored a run.

The Blue Jays went up 13-0 in the top of the first inning during a frame that included a pair of two-run singles, three RBI singles, an RBI double, and an RBI triple. The Dutchmen then generated some traffic on the bases in the bottom of the first, as Berry reached base on an error and stole second base. Kody Phillips also drew a walk and Lucien Burger was hit by a pitch.

Kyle McCracken pitched a scoreless top of the second for Lebanon Valley, notching the third out with a strikeout swinging to strand runners on first and second base. McCracken also posted a zero for the Flying Dutchmen in the top of the third inning, retiring the side in order with a strikeout swinging, a flyout to Phillips in left field, and a groundout to Berry up the middle. Lebanon Valley got more runners on base in the bottom half of the third, as Berry hit a one-out double down the left-field line and Palmieri was hit by a pitch.

Johns Hopkins then added five runs in the top of the fourth inning, advancing the score to 18-0 on a bases-loaded walk, an RBI groundout, a sacrifice fly, and an error. The Blue Jays also hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning, going ahead 19-0. Hayden Fravel pitched a 1-2-3 top of the sixth inning for LVC, logging a flyout to right fielder Adam Jirik, a flyout to center fielder Luca Santoro, and a lineout to Palmieri at third base.

The Dutchmen got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 19-1 contest. Palmieri hit a ball to second base and reached on an error, before advancing to third base on an error by the pitcher during a failed pickoff attempt. Colby Bealing and Will Plappert then each drew a walk, loading the bases. Jirik followed this by walking with the bases full, plating Palmieri.

Cole Kingsbury entered the game to pitch for Lebanon Valley in the top of the seventh inning and retired the side in order, registering a flyout that Plappert caught in shallow right field, a groundout to shortstop John Teehan, and a flyout to Santoro in right-center field. The Dutchmen continued to battle at the plate until the final out, as Tarnoci hit a double to left field and Palmieri drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh.
