AMBLER, Pa. – Daniel Palmieri recorded two hits, two walks, two RBIs, and a run scored for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team during its doubleheader at Arcadia University on Saturday, March 21, at Skip Wilson Field. LVC battled valiantly in both matchups while dropping an 8-5 contest and a 5-0 decision.
Game One
The Dutchmen (6-8, 3-2 MAC Freedom) got a runner into scoring position in the top of the first inning, as
Lucien Burger drew a two-out walk and stole second base. Starting pitcher
Landon Sexton then pitched a scoreless bottom of the first inning for Lebanon Valley. The Knights (8-6, 4-1 MAC Freedom) had runners on first and second base with one out during the frame, and LVC got out of the inning when Sexton struck out a batter and catcher
Kody Phillips threw out the runner who was leading off first.
The Flying Dutchmen created some traffic on the bases in the top of the second, as Palmieri walked and stole second base before
Jacob Williams walked as well. Sexton also posted a zero for LVC in the bottom of the second, notching the final out when Phillips threw out a runner attempting to steal second base. Arcadia then opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 3-0 lead on an RBI single, an RBI double, and a sacrifice fly.
Lebanon Valley answered back with four runs in the top of the fourth, claiming a 4-3 advantage. Phillips got things started with a leadoff hit-by-pitch and advanced to third on a stolen base and wild pitch, while a walk by
Kenny Palmieri put runners on the corners.
Daniel Palmieri then came through with an RBI double down the right-field line, driving in Phillips.
Tyler Satterfield later hit a ball to third base and reached on a fielding error, allowing
Kenny Palmieri to cross the plate.
Owen Berry followed this by lining a two-run double down the left-field line with two outs, knocking in
Daniel Palmieri and Satterfield. The Knights countered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 7-4 lead on an RBI groundout, a wild pitch, an error, and an RBI single.
The Dutchmen added another tally in the top of the fifth inning, narrowing their deficit to 7-5. Burger led off with a double down the right-field line and advanced to third base on a flyout.
Daniel Palmieri then delivered an RBI single through the right side, bringing in Burger. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Arcadia went up 8-5 on an RBI single.
Connor Simms later pitched a 1-2-3 frame for Lebanon Valley in the bottom of the sixth, tallying a flyout to center fielder
Spencer Butz and two flyouts to
Kenny Palmieri in right field.
The Flying Dutchmen proceeded to keep battling until the final out, as Burger reached base on an error by the catcher and
Kenny Palmieri hit a two-out single to shortstop in the top of the seventh. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the contest.

Game Two
Connor Smith started on the mound for Lebanon Valley (6-9, 3-3 MAC Freedom) and began the contest with a scoreless bottom of the first inning, picking up two strikeouts in the process. The Dutchmen then got a runner on base in the top of the second, as
Daniel Palmieri drew a two-out walk. Arcadia (9-6, 5-1 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring in the bottom half of the second, taking a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly.
LVC's lineup kept battling in the top of the third inning, as Berry hit a two-out double down the right-field line. The Knights then added a run in the bottom of the third, taking a 2-0 advantage on an RBI single.
MJ Vottero entered the game to pitch for the Flying Dutchmen in the bottom of the fourth, and the first-year started his relief outing with a shutout frame. Vottero stranded a runner at first by striking out two batters looking and notching the third out with an unassisted groundout to Satterfield at first base.
Vottero retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth inning, recording a strikeout look and two groundouts to Berry at shortstop. Vottero also pitched a 1-2-3 frame for Lebanon Valley in the bottom of sixth, logging a strikeout swinging, a flyout to Phillips in left field, and a strikeout looking. The Dutchmen continued to compete in the batter's box as well, as Phillips hit a leadoff single to center field and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Williams in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Arcadia went up 4-0 on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
The Knights tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth, advancing the score to 5-0 on an RBI single. The Dutchmen also kept working to generate traffic on the bases in the top of the ninth inning, as Phillips hit a two-out single to center field. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the conclusion of the game.
