Men’s Tennis Splits Matches in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Lebanon Valley men's tennis team went 1-1 on day two in Hilton Head as the Dutchmen defeated Saint Vincent College 6-1 in the morning and then dropped a 7-0 decision to a strong University of Lynchburg squad in the afternoon.
 
LVC (5-5) started the day by handing Saint Vincent College (4-1) its first loss of the year by a score of 6-1 at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center. The Dutchmen swept through doubles play, dropping seven games over the three matches. They won five of the six singles matches to defeat the Bearcats in the first meeting between the programs.
 
The Dutchmen then traveled over to the Chaplin Park Tennis Center to take on the University of Lynchburg. The Hornets (4-0) won all three doubles matches and then took all six singles matches in the first meeting between the programs since 2008.
 
Inside the Boxes
  • Jesse Beck and Adam Warren won their number one doubles match against the Bearcats 6-2
  • Jared Hostetter and Brayden Waiter won 6-2 at number two doubles against Saint Vincent. Waiter won in his first collegiate match.
  • Colin Brusse and Zachary Elmore were 6-3 winners at number three doubles against SVC.
  • Zach Schrader went 1-1 in singles on the day. He was the first court done at number one against Saint Vincent with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
  • Elmore had a 6-0, 6-0 victory in his first collegiate singles match at number four. His first career double bagel put the Dutchmen on the brink of clinching the match.
  • Waiter earned his first collegiate singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number five to clinch the match victory.
  • Vincent Thompson was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at number six singles to improve to 1-1 on the year.
  • Hostetter rallied for a three-set victory at number two singles. The junior dropped the first set 6-2 before winning the second set 7-6 (7-5). He won the third set tiebreaker 11-9 for his first singles win of the season.
  • Ethan Luu went three sets at number three singles, dropping a 1-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3) decision.
  • Beck and Jake Erb had a close match at number one doubles against the Hornets, falling 6-4. Beck went three sets in his number two singles match, falling 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3).
Up Next
Lebanon Valley will be off tomorrow and return to the court on Wednesday for its final two matches in South Carolina. The Dutchmen will face Roanoke College at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Head Middle School to begin the day. They will close out the trip on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. with a match against Waynesburg University at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.
