ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team battled tough in its first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom matchup of the season, while dropping a 1-0 contest to Misericordia University on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Herbert Field.
The Dutchmen (4-4-0, 0-1-0 MAC Freedom) and Cougars (4-2-3, 1-0-0 MAC Freedom) competed defensively early in the first half, as neither team took a shot for over six minutes at the start. Misericordia then put a shot on goal at the 6:41 mark, but LVC responded with a save by goalkeeper
Camryn Porter. After the programs continued to go back and forth for over 12 minutes, Lebanon Valley registered a shot by
Abrielle Miller that went over the upper-right corner of the net at the 19:06 mark.
Megan Ressler also recorded a shot for the Flying Dutchmen at the 21:56 mark, which went to the right of the net.
The Cougars sent another shot toward the net 25:32 into the first half, and Porter came through with a stop for LVC. Misericordia also logged a shot that went above the net at the 27:12 mark, and had an attempt blocked by Lebanon Valley at the 32:15 mark. The Dutchmen proceeded to outshoot the opposition 3-0 during the remainder of the stanza, including two shots by Miller that went to the left of the net and a try by Ressler that was saved. The programs entered halftime in a scoreless tie.
Lebanon Valley took the first shot of the second half, as Ressler had an attempt saved at the 46:13 mark. The Cougars got on the board 53:36 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alyssa Steenback. The Flying Dutchmen followed this by outshooting the opposition 4-3 over the next 14:21. During this stretch,
Chloe Moser put a shot on goal for LVC that was saved. Misericordia then recorded off-target shots at the 76:28, 79:43, and 80:42 marks.
Lebanon Valley kept battling until the final minute, outshooting Misericordia 3-0 during the rest of the second half. Miller put a shot on goal that was saved at the 81:31 mark, while
Jayme Beninda sent an attempt to the left of the net at the 82:55 mark. Miller also had a try go to the left of the net at the 86:23 mark. Ultimately, the Cougars maintained their 1-0 lead through the end of play.
