Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Defeats King’s in Series Opener with Strong Team Effort

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– Six players found the net for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team, propelling the program to a dominant 7-0 victory over King's College on Friday, Jan. 10 at Hersheypark Arena. 

The Flying Dutchmen (11-4-0, 8-3-0 MAC) got their offense rolling early, scoring two goals in the first period. Brysha Schmidt tallied the first goal of the evening, marking the game-winner. Lebanon Valley proceeded to net two more goals in the second frame, before adding three in the third period. Addi Alaoui recorded a game-high three points with a goal and two assists, while Leela Nemani scored a game-high two goals. 

The Dutchmen didn't waste any time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead over the Monarchs (0-13-0, 0-9-0 MAC) just 3:04 into the game. The program opened the scoring on a goal by Schmidt, following an assist by Abby Mak. King's later countered with some offensive opportunities, but LVC's defense answered with a block by Rhiannon Price at the 5:22 mark and saves by goaltender Mia Frisoni at the 5:49 and 6:33 marks. Lebanon Valley also kept sending the puck toward the net as the first frame went on, putting five shots on goal over the next 3:48. 

The Flying Dutchmen scored again 10:29 into the first period, taking a 2-0 advantage. The squad went ahead by two when McKayla Romano netted a goal, courtesy of an assist by Schmidt. Lebanon Valley also continued its strong defensive effort, as Addison Taylert blocked a shot at the 11:38 mark and Frisoni registered a stop at the 12:05 mark. LVC proceeded to put 11 more shots on target during the remaining minutes of the first. During this stretch, the team took a total of 10 shots during two power plays, which began in the 14th and 17th minutes. Defensively, the Dutchmen prevented the opposition from logging a shot on goal during this span. Lebanon Valley outshot King's 20-4 in the first period. 

LVC recorded five shots that were saved during the first 2:53 of the second period, before extending its lead to 3-0 at the 2:55 mark. The program added a tally when Anna Dale sent the puck into the back of the net for a goal, after an assist by Alaoui. This was followed by the squads going back and forth for over nine minutes, as the Flying Dutchmen put seven more shots on target and Frisoni delivered three saves during this stretch. 

Lebanon Valley continued to produce offensively as the second frame progressed, going up 4-0. The team scored on a goal by Nemani, following assists by Allison Guyer and Sky Campanile. The Dutchmen then took seven more shots on goal during the rest of the period, including two attempts by Nemani. Frisoni also kept battling on the defensive end, coming through with saves for LVC at the 16:37 and 19:02 marks. The Flying Dutchmen outshot the Monarchs 21-5 in the second period. 

Lebanon Valley took three shots that were saved in just over two minutes at the beginning of the third period, before taking a 5-0 advantage at the 2:41 mark. Alaoui scored the program's fifth goal of the night, courtesy of an assist by Mak. The Dutchmen followed this by continuing to register shots, putting nine attempts on target over the next 9:03. The squad took three of these shots during a power play that started in the 11th minute, as Tiffany Anderson, Taylert, and Romano each logged a try. 

The Flying Dutchmen capitalized on the one-skater advantage, taking a 6-0 lead on a power-play goal by Nemani 11:46 into the third period. Romano and Alaoui were credited with assists on Nemani's second goal. Lebanon Valley scored again just 13 seconds later, making it a 7-0 contest at the 11:59 mark. The team's final goal of the day marked the first of Adriana Laveck's career, which was scored after an assist by Mallory Burdick. This would stand as the final score, as LVC proceeded to outshoot the opposition 6-0 during the remainder of the game. The Dutchmen had a 22-0 advantage in shots on goal during the third period.

  • Alaoui recorded a game-high and season-high three points, netting her fourth goal of the season and tying a game-high two assists to set a season-high. 
  • Schmidt scored her second goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner, while dishing out an assist on Romano's goal to tie a career-high two points. Both of the junior's goals this year have been game-winning goals. 
  • Nemani netted a game-high two goals, matching a career-high. The sophomore also won all nine of her faceoff opportunities. 
  • Romano tied a season-high two points with her seventh goal of the winter and an assist on Nemani's second goal. The first-year also went 8-2 on faceoffs. 
  • Laveck scored her first career goal and won three faceoffs. 
  • Dale scored her ninth goal of the campaign, which is tied for the most on the team. The junior also posted a season-high three faceoff victories. 
  • Mak tied a game-high and season-high two assists. The first-year was credited with an assist on Schmidt's game-winning goal. 
  • Guyer tallied her first career assist on Nemani's first goal. 
  • Burdick assisted Laveck's goal. 
  • Campanile logged an assist on Nemani's first goal. 
  • Frisoni made nine saves during her fourth shutout performance of the season. 
  • The Dutchmen tied a season-high seven goals, matching their total in the 7-2 victory over Trine University on Jan. 2. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot King's 63-9. This marks LVC's second-most shots on goal as a team in program history. 
  • Alaoui and Taylert tied a game-high eight shots on target. Alaoui also set a season-high in shots. 
  • Defensively, Price and Taylert each blocked a shot for LVC.
  • The Flying Dutchmen had a 41-9 advantage in faceoffs. 
  • Anderson posted a game-high 18 faceoff wins, going 18-4.

Lebanon Valley will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m., when the program will close out its weekend series against King's at Hersheypark Arena.
