Taylert Scores Goal for Women’s Ice Hockey Against Nationally Ranked Wilkes

HERSHEY, Pa. – Addison Taylert netted a power-play goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team in the third period, as the program battled valiantly while dropping a 2-1 decision to No. 14 Wilkes University on Friday, Jan. 30 at Hersheypark Arena.

The Dutchmen (13-5-0, 10-4-0 MAC) and the Colonels (16-1-1, 14-1-0 MAC) went back and forth defensively early in the game, as only one shot was put on goal during the opening six minutes of the first period. LVC tallied the first attempt of the night, as Sky Campanile had a shot saved at the 1:21 mark. Lebanon Valley then began a power play in the sixth minute, which led to Taylert and Tiffany Anderson each putting a shot on target that was saved. The Flying Dutchmen also started a power play 10 minutes into the first frame, and Anderson took a shot that was saved during this stretch.

Lebanon Valley was productive on the defensive end as well, keeping Wilkes from putting a shot on goal for over 13 minutes at the start of the contest. Goaltender Mia Frisoni made her first save for the Dutchmen at the 13:14 mark, before she logged two more stops and Leela Nemani blocked a shot within 21 seconds in the 16th minute. The Colonels later began a power play in the 18th minute, and LVC answered with two saves by Frisoni and a block by Lauren Pennino during a successful penalty kill. This was followed by Campanile taking the last shot of the period for Lebanon Valley, which was saved with 38 seconds left.

Wilkes began the second period with 1:33 remaining in a power play that started at the end of the first frame. The Dutchmen delivered strong defense during this stretch, preventing the opposition from taking a shot during another successful penalty kill. Lebanon Valley's defensive unit also came through with three saves by Frisoni and blocks by Abby Mak, Norah McCauliffe, Amy McKeigue, and Brysha Schmidt over the next 6:14. LVC kept working to generate offensive opportunities as well, as Anderson sent a puck toward the net that was saved at the 8:13 mark.

Frisoni continued to limit Wilkes as the second period progressed, registering four stops for the Flying Dutchmen over the next 4:05. The Colonels later began a power play in the 13th minute, and Frisoni posted four saves while Anna Dale had a block and McCauliffe blocked two shots during a successful penalty kill for LVC. Lebanon Valley then created some scoring chances, as Dale and Camryn Crouch each had a shot saved within nine seconds in the 17th minute. Taylert and Anderson also recorded an attempt each that was saved within five seconds in the 18th minute. Before the end of the frame, Frisoni made another save for the Dutchmen, and Laura Radford had two blocks within 16 seconds in the 19th minute.

Wilkes got on the board 1:25 into the third period, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Haylee Bouchard. The Colonels followed this with some more shot attempts, but Lebanon Valley answered with a block by Pennino and a save by Frisoni within three seconds in the third minute. The Dutchmen countered with a shot on target by Dale, which was saved at the 4:13 mark. Sophia Scatena also logged a try that was saved at the 6:42 mark. Wilkes scored again 6:54 into the third, taking a 2-0 advantage on a goal by Nina Hudakova. Frisoni then made three saves for LVC over the next 1:04.

The Dutchmen continued to send the puck toward the net as the third period went on, as Nemani had two shots saved while Dale had an attempt saved within 11 seconds in the 10th minute. Dale and Addi Alaoui each had a try saved within 24 seconds in the 12th minute as well. This was followed by some shots from the Colonels, which Frisoni saved at the 12:56 and 13:40 marks. Lebanon Valley later started power plays in the 15th and 16th minutes, and the program capitalized on its second opportunity to narrow the score to 2-1. The squad made it a one-point game when Taylert netted a power-play goal 16:09 into the third, courtesy of assists by Alaoui and Dale.

The Colonels then put shots on goal at the 16:57 and 17:27 marks, and Frisoni made saves on both attempts. The Dutchmen followed this by battling during the rest of the frame, putting four more shots on target during the remaining minutes. Lebanon Valley pulled its goalie with less than a minute to go, prompting the team to have a 6-on-5 advantage in skaters during the final 56 seconds.
