NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College indoor track and field teams were presented with a pair of awards from the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 20, as the conference office announced that two of the program's student-athletes were recognized through the release of its weekly honors.
Junior
Rory Lieberman was selected as the MAC Track Athlete of the Week after his performance for Lebanon Valley's men's indoor track and field team at the Blue & Grey Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17. Sophomore
Ava Matter also delivered a strong effort at the Blue & Grey Invitational for LVC's women's indoor track and field team, and she was named the MAC Track Athlete of the Week as well.
Lieberman won the 3,000 meters at Moravian University's Blue & Grey Invitational in his first indoor appearance of the year with a MAC-leading time of 8:37.72. His time also qualified him for the AARTFC Championships. His converted time of 8:31.77 for track size is ranked 37th in the nation, fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and eighth in AARTFC. Lieberman won by three seconds in a race where the Dutchmen had six of the top nine finishers in a field of 23. The junior's first weekly award of the season marks the fourth he has received during his career with the men's indoor track and field team. This is also Lebanon Valley's second straight MAC Track Athlete of the Week honor, as senior
Sam Rothstein was recognized on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Additionally, the Flying Dutchmen have now earned three weekly awards from the MAC this year.
Matter won the 200 meters at Moravian's Blue & Grey Invitational with a time of 26.59 seconds. Her second-best time of the year is faster than anyone else in the MAC has run the 200 meters this season. She topped the field of 14 by nearly a second with her teammate, first-year
Gabrielle Welter, finishing second in 27.23 seconds. This marks Matter's first career MAC weekly honor. The Dutchmen have collected the MAC Track Athlete of the Week award for a second consecutive week, as Welter was honored last Tuesday. Additionally, Lebanon Valley's women's indoor track and field team has garnered recognition from the conference three times this winter.
