ANGOLA, Ind. – The Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team began 2026 with a dominant victory, as the program defeated Trine University 7-2 on Friday, Jan. 2 at Thunder Ice Arena.
The Flying Dutchmen received several contributions during the win, as five players recorded multi-point games and 11 logged at least one point.
Leela Nemani tallied a game-high four points with a goal and three assists, while
Allison Guyer and
McKayla Romano each scored two goals.
Lauren Pennino also registered a goal and an assist, and
Brysha Schmidt had two assists.
The Dutchmen (10-3-0, 7-3-0 MAC) worked to limit the Thunder (3-8-1, 1-6-1 NCHA) early in the contest, as goaltender
Mia Frisoni delivered six saves during the opening 5:56 of the first period. Lebanon Valley's offense countered with some scoring chances, as Romano and Schmidt each put a shot on goal that was saved within 11 seconds in the eighth minute. Trine later began a power play in the 10th minute, and LVC held the opposition to an attempt that was blocked by
Abby Mak during a successful penalty kill.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to battle defensively as the first period progressed, as Frisoni tallied two stops and
Amy McKeigue blocked a shot within a stretch of 1:04 that began in the 12th minute. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring 14:34 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over Trine. The program struck first on a goal by Guyer, courtesy of assists by Nemani and Pennino. LVC proceeded to keep the Thunder from registering a shot on goal during the remainder of the frame, while the program's offense put two more attempts on target.
The Dutchmen were aggressive offensively at the start of the second period, taking 12 shots that were saved during the first 7:03 of the frame. On the defensive end, Frisoni also made three saves for LVC during this stretch. The Flying Dutchmen later went on a power play in the ninth minute, which resulted in
Anna Dale,
Tiffany Anderson, and Nemani each putting a shot on target that was saved. This was followed by more stops for Frisoni at the 11:35, 12:36, and 12:41 marks. Lebanon Valley found the net again 14:01 into the second period, taking a 2-0 advantage on Guyer's second goal of the game. Mak and Nemani were credited with assists on the second goal of the night.
The Dutchmen quickly added another tally just nine seconds into a power play, going ahead 3-0 at the 15:39 mark. The squad extended its lead on a power-play goal by Pennino, following assists by Schmidt and Nemani. The teams proceeded to go back and forth over the next 4:06, as Trine took four shots that were saved by Frisoni, while LVC had three attempts saved during this stretch. The Flying Dutchmen then tacked on a point as time expired in the second period, making it a 4-0 contest. Dale capped off the frame by sending the puck into the back of the net for a goal, after assists by Anderson and
Norah McCauliffe.
Each program kept tallying shots when the third period got underway, as Lebanon Valley logged three attempts that were saved, and the Thunder had four tries saved by Frisoni during the first 7:44. Trine later went on a power play in the ninth minute, and LVC answered with a block by
Camryn Crouch and a stop by Frisoni during another successful penalty kill. The Thunder then got on the board 10:27 into the frame, narrowing the score to 4-1 on a goal by Cassandra Biblow. The Dutchmen responded at the 12:53 mark, taking a 5-1 lead. The team got a point back with a goal by Romano, courtesy of an assist by
Adriana Laveck.
Lebanon Valley's offense found the net again just 18 seconds later, going up 6-1. Romano scored her second goal 13:11 into the third period, following assists by Schmidt and
Sophia Scatena. The Flying Dutchmen continued their offensive clinic as the frame went on, extending their advantage to 7-1 on a goal by Nemani at the 14:14 mark. This was followed by the teams going back and forth for nearly five minutes, recording five shots on goal each over this stretch. Trine then scored on a goal by Maya Shtrom at the 19:11.7 mark, making it a 7-2 game. The Dutchmen went on to preserve this lead through the end of the third period, securing the victory.

- Nemani registered a game-high and career-high four points with her fifth goal of the season and a game-high and career-high three assists. The sophomore's three assists tied a program record, which is also tied for the most in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) this year. Nemani won seven faceoffs as well.
- Pennino recorded a season-high two points with a goal and an assist. The first-year's second goal of the campaign marked her first career game-winner and her first career power-play goal.
- Guyer scored a season-high two goals to tie a game-high, bringing her season total to three goals. The first-year also set a season-high two points.
- Romano matched a game-high and season-high two goals while winning nine faceoffs. The first-year now has six goals this season. Additionally, Romano tied a season-high two points.
- Dale scored her eighth goal of the campaign.
- McCauliffe dished out an assist on Dale's goal, while posting a game-high and career-high six blocks.
- Schmidt tallied a season-high two assists for a season-high two points, marking her most assists and points at LVC. The junior was credited with an assist on Pennino's game-winning goal.
- Scatena recorded her first career point with an assist on Romano's second goal. The first-year also blocked a shot on the defensive end.
- Mak had an assist on Guyer's second goal and a block.
- Laveck assisted Romano's first goal.
- Anderson was credited with an assist on Dale's goal while winning eight faceoffs.
- LVC's offense recorded season-highs with 18 points, seven goals, and 11 assists.
- Frisoni made 33 saves during the win.
- Lebanon Valley outshot Trine 41-35.
- Defensively, the Flying Dutchmen blocked 12 shots.
- LVC recorded 30 faceoff victories.
