Prex Matches Men’s Soccer’s Career Points Record in Tie with York

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– Nathan Prex recorded three points for the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team, bringing his career total to 80 to match the program's all-time record during a 2-2 tie with York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Herbert Field. 

The Dutchmen (1-1-1) and the Spartans (1-1-2) battled defensively early in the first half, as neither squad put a shot on goal for over eight minutes at the start of the game. York sent the ball toward the net at the 8:02 and 10:02 marks, and goalkeeper Ethan Bazydola came through with saves on both attempts for Lebanon Valley. LVC countered with a shot on goal by Ben Kolarek that was saved 11:49 into the contest. Later in the stanza, Prex logged a try that was saved at the 21:05 mark and a shot that went over the net at the 22:33 mark. 

Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 25:20 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over York. Ethan Groff got the team on the board with a shot into the lower-left corner of the net for a goal, courtesy of an assist by Prex. The Spartans then took a shot from the right side of the penalty box when Bazydola went to retrieve the ball, and Logan Hicks made an impressive sliding stop for LVC to prevent the ball from rolling into the net. The Flying Dutchmen also continued to tally shots as the opening half progressed, as Gavin Rapp took a shot that was saved at the 34:48 mark, while Prex's try was saved 46 seconds later. York took some more shots during the first as well, but Bazydola delivered stops for Lebanon Valley at the 38:33 and 41:25 marks. LVC took its one-goal advantage into halftime. 

The Dutchmen kept working to generate offensive opportunities when the second half got underway, as Prex sent a shot to the right of the net at the 48:33 mark and Will Burton took a shot that was saved 51:01 into the game. The Spartans countered with a shot on goal at the 53:48 mark, and Bazydola posted another save to maintain LVC's lead. The Dutchmen found the net again 56:00 into the contest, extending their advantage to 2-0. Prex sent a shot into the lower-center portion of the net for a goal, following an assist by Harrison Davis

Lebanon Valley proceeded to create more scoring chances, as Kolarek took a shot that was saved at the 57:24 mark and JJ Porter put an attempt on goal that was saved at the 64:34 mark. The Dutchmen were also productive during this stretch, keeping the Spartans from taking a shot for 9:49 after the goal. York then got on the scoreboard at the 65:49 mark, narrowing its deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Tanor Wiszneski. The Spartans followed this with more shots on goal as the second stanza progressed, and Bazydola tallied saves for LVC at the 67:23, 70:35, 75:48, 81:52, and 85:62 marks. 

The Dutchmen kept battling offensively as well, as Nathan Kimball sent a shot over the net 87:02 into the game. York then scored again on a goal by Wiszneski with just 55 seconds left, tying the game at 2-2. Ultimately, this would stand as the final score.  

Inside the Box Score
  • Prex logged a season-high three points with his first goal and second assist of the campaign. This brought the senior's career points total to 80, tying Grant Walter for Lebanon Valley's career record. Prex also had a game-high six total shots while tying a game-high three shots on goal. 
  • Groff scored his first goal of the season, marking the sixth of his career. 
  • Davis registered his first assist of the campaign on Prex's goal. 
  • Lebanon Valley took 17 total shots, including nine attempts on goal. 
  • Kolarek put a pair of shots on goal.
  • Bazydola made a career-high 11 saves. 
  • LVC tallied three corner kicks.

The Dutchmen will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m., when the program will host Gettysburg College at Herbert Field.
