Prex Breaks Men’s Soccer’s Career Points Record in Win Over Gettysburg

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– Nathan Prex broke the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's record for career points while tying its record for career goals, netting the game-winner during the program's 2-0 victory over Gettysburg College on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Herbert Field. JJ Porter also scored a goal for LVC, and goalkeeper Ryan Simonette posted a shutout. 

The Bullets (3-2-0) attempted the first shot of the game, but this try was blocked by the Dutchmen (2-1-1) 5:47 into the first half. The programs proceeded to battle defensively for nearly eight minutes, until Gettysburg put a shot on goal and Simonette made a save for LVC at the 13:31 mark. Lebanon Valley countered with a shot by Prex, which went to the left of the net 15:57 into the contest. The Flying Dutchmen then blocked another shot by the opposition at the 16:56 mark. 

Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 18:19 into the first half, taking a 1-0 lead over Gettysburg. Prex took a free kick from beyond the penalty arc and sent the ball into the upper-left corner of the net for a goal. Prex also kept working to generate offensive opportunities as the stanza progressed, recording a shot that was saved at the 20:02 mark. The Bullets later put a shot on goal 27:23 into the first, and Simonette delivered another save for the Dutchmen. LVC kept tallying shots as well, as Harrison Davis put a shot on goal that was saved at the 31:12 mark and kicked the ball to the left of the net 1:18 later. Jack Bowman also attempted a shot that was blocked at the 35:14 mark.

The Flying Dutchmen found the net again 35:57 into the opening half, extending their advantage to 2-0. Shortly after Lebanon Valley took a corner kick, and the ball was deflected by the defense, Porter took a shot from just beyond the goal box that settled into the lower-left corner of the net. Gettysburg responded with a shot attempt that went to the right of the net at the 41:09 mark. LVC took this two-goal lead into halftime. 

The programs went back and forth defensively early in the second half, as neither squad attempted a shot for over six minutes at the start. The Bullets registered the first try of the stanza, which went over the upper-left corner of the net at the 51:17 mark. Will Burton then took a shot for Lebanon Valley that was blocked 55:47 into the game. This was followed by a Gettysburg shot that went to the left of the net at the 56:12 mark. Gavin Rapp also created a scoring chance for the Dutchmen, sending a shot to the right of the net 61:46 into the contest.

Simonette continued his strong defensive effort for Lebanon Valley as well, coming through with another save on a shot by the Bullets at the 62:31 mark. The Flying Dutchmen then countered with a shot on goal by Bowman, which was saved 64:29 into the game. The squads followed this by battling on the defensive end for nearly 16 minutes, as neither team took a shot over this stretch. Gettysburg then generated an offensive opportunity with a shot to the left of the net at the 80:17 mark. LVC later took the last shot of the day at the 88:24 mark, as Rapp put an attempt on goal that was saved. The Dutchmen proceeded to preserve their 2-0 advantage through the end of the contest, securing the victory.

  • Prex recorded two points on his second goal of the season and his first game-winner of the year, bringing his career points total to 82. This broke the program record for career points, surpassing Grant Walter's previous record of 80 points. Prex's goal also marked the 32nd of his career, tying Walter and Chris Hall for LVC's career goals record. 
  • Porter netted his second goal of the campaign on his only shot of the afternoon. 
  • Simonette logged three saves during his first career start. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Gettysburg 11-9 and had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • Prex also posted game-highs with three total shots and two shots on goal. 
  • Davis, Bowman, and Rapp each tallied two total shots with an attempt on goal. 
  • The Flying Dutchmen tallied three corner kicks. 
Up Next
Lebanon Valley will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m., when the program will travel to take on Cairn University at the Stillman Complex Turf Field in Langhorne, Pa. This will be LVC's first matchup as the visitors this season.
