Miller’s Goal Leads Dutchmen Women’s Soccer to Victory at Alvernia

READING, Pa. ­­– Abrielle Miller netted a goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team near the end of the first half, fueling the program's 1-0 victory over Alvernia University on Wednesday, Sept. 3, on the Alvernia Turf Field. Goalkeeper Camryn Porter also posted a stellar effort during her second shutout of the year for LVC. 

The Dutchmen (2-0-0) took the first shot of the night, as Emilee Walborn put an attempt on goal that was saved 2:14 into the game. The Golden Wolves (0-1-1) countered with a shot on goal at the 3:09 mark, and Porter came through with the save for Lebanon Valley. Jordan Lasky later contributed to LVC's offensive efforts, taking a shot on goal that was saved at the 12:20 mark. 

The Flying Dutchmen continued to send the ball toward the net as the opening stanza progressed, as Megan Ressler kicked the ball off the crossbar at the 17:31 mark before tallying another shot that was saved 34 seconds later. Kalei Noonan also put a shot on goal for LVC at the 21:14 mark, which was saved. The programs proceeded to go back and forth on the defensive end, as neither squad took a shot for nearly 12 minutes. Alvernia had an attempt at the 33:06 mark, and Porter made another important stop. 

Lebanon Valley took four more shots over the next 7:39, including an attempt on goal by Miller that was saved at the 40:45 mark. The Dutchmen got on the board 42:47 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over the Golden Wolves. Miller put the program ahead when she took the ball past the goalkeeper and kicked it into the right corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by Alison Sepkovic. LVC took this one-goal advantage into halftime. 

Each program worked to create scoring chances early in the second half, as Sepkovic took a shot and the Golden Wolves had two attempts that went wide of the net within the first 5:37. Alvernia then put a shot on goal at the 51:14 mark, which resulted in another save by Porter. Sepkovic followed this with a shot on goal for LVC, which was saved 53:07 into the contest. 

The Dutchmen and the Golden Wolves proceeded to battle on the defensive end, as neither side put a shot on goal for over 17 minutes. Alvernia sent a shot toward the net at the 70:48 mark, and Porter maintained Lebanon Valley's 1-0 lead with her fourth and final save of the evening. LVC also continued its defensive dominance through the end of the game, keeping the opposition from taking a shot during the final 19:12 to secure the victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Miller scored her first goal of the season, marking the 11th of her career. This was also the junior's fourth career game-winning goal. Miller now has three points this year. Additionally, she logged a game-high six shots while tying a game-high two shots on goal. 
  • Sepkovic dished out the assist on Miller's game-winning goal. This was the senior's fifth career assist. Sepkovic also took three shots, including an attempt on goal. 
  • Porter made a season-high four saves during her second shutout performance of the season. The goalkeeper now has seven shutouts in her career. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Alvernia 17-6 and had a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • Ressler, Lasky, Walborn, Sepkovic, and Noonan registered a shot on goal each. 
  • The Flying Dutchmen had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Flying Dutchmen will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m., when the program will travel to take on Elizabethtown College at Ira R. Herr Field in Elizabethtown, Pa.
