Baldwin Scores Second Half Goal in Tie at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – Olivia Baldwin scored the second goal of her career in the 56th minute as the Lebanon Valley women's soccer team earned its first tie of the season with a 1-1 draw at Widener University on Saturday afternoon at Leslie Quick Jr. Stadium in Chester.

The Flying Dutchmen (7-1-1) continued their strong play to start the season and controlled possession for 61 percent of the game. Mikhaela Sartor found space in the opening minute for the first shot of the game, which was blocked by a Widener defender before reaching the keeper. The Dutchmen earned a pair of corners in the 17th minute, but each time the Pride knocked the ball away. Widener had its first offensive opportunity of the game in the 20th minute as a shot from just outside the box sailed wide right. A couple of minutes later, Jayme Beninda nearly scored with a blast from outside the box as her shot hit the crossbar. Widener had the first shot on goal of the afternoon as Camryn Porter made easy work of a shot in the 24th minute.

LVC put pressure on the Pride following the save by Porter with four shots in a span of five minutes. Chloe Moser sent a shot high, and Abrielle Miller had her shot to the inside of the right post saved. Megan Ressler's attempt off a corner kick was off the mark, and then Beninda's attempt from deep was saved. LVC kept the pressure on as Ressler and Miller had shots saved over the final 15 minutes of the half. The Dutchmen outshot the Pride 9-2 in the opening half and put four shots on goal.

Widener came out strong to begin the second half, putting a pair of shots on goal in the first 10 minutes while holding the Dutchmen without a shot. LVC held the Pride without a shot off back-to-back corner kicks in the 56th minute. The Dutchmen controlled the ball off the second corner and pushed the ball up the field. Miller found Olivia Baldwin in the middle of the box at the other end, and the sophomore beat the keeper to the right side for the go-ahead goal.

The Pride attempted to answer right back, but Porter knocked a ball away for a corner kick. Miller nearly increased the advantage in the 64th minute, but her attempt was hit over the bar for a corner kick. Widener was able to successfully defend a pair of corner kicks. Neither team was able to get a shot off again until the 84th minute, when Miller missed high. The Pride started pressing for the tying goal as time wound down. They earned a corner kick in the 86th minute, but their shot went right of the goal. A minute later, they were able to find the back of the net to even the score up on a shot from the middle of the box. Neither team was able to get off a shot over the final three minutes to settle for a tie.
