Dutchmen Women’s Soccer Ties Arcadia in Conference Opener

GLENSIDE, Pa. ­­– Alison Sepkovic and Abrielle Miller each scored a goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team in its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener, as the program tied Arcadia University 2-2 on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion. 

The Knights (7-1-3, 0-0-1 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring 1:14 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Juliette Salvi. The Dutchmen (7-1-2, 0-0-1 MAC Freedom) countered with a pair of offensive opportunities, as Jordan Lasky had a shot blocked and Megan Ressler sent a shot to the right of the net within 23 seconds in the sixth minute. Mikhaela Sarter then took a shot for LVC that went to the right of the net at the 10:47 mark, before the programs battled on the defensive end for over six minutes. 

The Flying Dutchmen kept working to generate scoring chances as the opening half progressed, as Jayme Beninda put a shot on target that was saved 17:11 into the contest. This was followed by Lebanon Valley attempting four shots within a stretch of 2:28 that began in the 21st minute, as Lasky, Kalei Noonan, and Miller each had tries blocked while Chloe Moser sent the ball to the left of the net. 

Arcadia attempted a shot at the 23:29 mark, which was blocked by Lebanon Valley. The Knights then registered a shot on target 31:27 into the first, but goalkeeper Camryn Porter came through with an important save for the Dutchmen. LVC followed this with a shot by Miller, which went to the left of the net at the 32:26 mark. Arcadia also put a shot on goal at the 33:58 mark, which resulted in a save by Porter. The programs proceeded to go back and forth defensively during the remainder of the first stanza, prompting the Knights to take their one-goal advantage into halftime. 

Lebanon Valley got on the scoreboard 2:18 into the second half, tying the game at 1-1. After having an attempt blocked, Sepkovic evened the score by sending her second straight shot into the upper-center portion of the net. Lasky was credited with the assist on the program's first goal of the day. Arcadia responded with a goal by Ciara Garrett 33 seconds later, taking a 2-1 lead. The Flying Dutchmen countered with some offensive opportunities, as Lasky had a shot blocked at the 49:13 mark and took a shot on goal that was saved at the 54:06 mark. 

The Knights continued to tally shots as the second stanza went on, sending the ball to the left of the net at the 56:56 mark before registering a try that was saved by Porter 61:57 into the contest. Arcadia also logged an attempt that went to the right of the net at the 64:57 mark, while Porter delivered saves on shots by the opposition at the 66:56 and 67:03 marks. Noonan then took a shot for LVC, which went to the left of the net at the 68:19 mark. This was followed by another try for the Knights that went to the right of the net 70:35 into the game. 

The Dutchmen found the net again at the 72:30 mark, making it a 2-2 contest. The play that tied things up began when Sophia Floyd delivered an excellent pass from the center circle to Miller in the penalty arc. Miller then took the ball to the middle of the penalty box and sent a shot into the lower-right portion of the net for a goal. Lebanon Valley kept taking shots as the game went on, as Ressler had an attempt go to the right of the net at the 77:32 mark. 

Arcadia also continued to compete offensively, putting shots on goal at the 82:51, 85:31, and 85:54 marks. Porter posted key stops for LVC on each of these tries. The Knights then took the last shot of the afternoon at the 86:14 mark, which was blocked by the Flying Dutchmen. Ultimately, the contest concluded in a 2-2 draw. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Sepkovic scored her second goal of the season. The senior took two shots, including one attempt on target. 
  • Miller netted her fifth goal of the campaign. The junior has recorded a point in each of LVC's 10 games this year. Miller also tallied three shots with one attempt on goal. 
  • Lasky dished out the assist on Sepkovic's goal. The senior also tied a game-high four shots, putting one shot on target. 
  • Floyd logged her first career point with an assist on Miller's goal. 
  • Porter made a game-high and season-high eight saves. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Arcadia 16-15. The Dutchmen had four shots on goal during the contest.  
  • LVC tallied two corner kicks. 
  • The Flying Dutchmen have tied their last two games.

Lebanon Valley will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m., when the program will host Hood College for a non-conference matchup at Herbert Field.
