ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley field hockey team put together one of its most impressive performances of the year with a statement 3-2 shootout victory over 17th-ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen (5-4) had another strong defensive performance against one of the traditional powerhouse programs in Division III. In the first meeting between the programs since 2000, the Lions (6-2) needed a fourth-quarter rally to send the game into overtime. TCNJ earned the first penalty corner in the third minute of the game. They were able to get a shot off the corner, but it sailed wide left of the cage.
Ella Weidenhammer denied a shot late in the fourth minute and then another shot 30 seconds later. The Lions kept the pressure up, but LVC's defense answered, blocking a shot off a corner in the ninth minute. The Dutchmen started to turn the momentum their way late in the quarter. They earned their first corner of the game in the final minute.

Abby Rodenberger started the second quarter action with a shot on goal that was kept out by the keeper.
Danika Setlock had a shot blocked early in the 23rd minute. The Lions took the ball down the field and earned a corner.

Jillian Tait was waiting to knock it home for her second goal of the season. LVC used the momentum of taking the lead to hold finish out the final minutes of the half strong.
TCNJ took the first shot of the third quarter as
Ella Weidenhammer made another big save. She was called on once again in the 37th minute and made another stop to keep the one-goal advantage. In the 39th minute, the Dutchmen earned a corner. Weidenhammer found Tait on the corner attempt, and the sophomore scored her second goal of the game. The Lions were able to get a penalty corner in the 43rd minute, but the LVC defense came up big and didn't allow a shot.
LVC's defensive back line was tested throughout the fourth quarter. They were able to hold their own for the first half of the quarter, holding TCNJ without a shot or a penalty corner. The Lions were awarded the first corner of the quarter in the 54th minute. The defense was able to block a pass towards the goal, but a TCNJ forward picked up the loose ball and scored to cut the deficit to one. The Lions continued to press with the Dutchmen defense thwarting attack after attack into the circle. TCNJ was awarded another corner in the 57th minute.
Ella Weidenhammer made a huge save before another corner was awarded. On the second corner, a Lion forward was able to lift the ball above a scrum in front of the cage for the tying goal. TCNJ had a scoring opportunity in the final minute, but LVC stopped a corner attempt to send the game to overtime.
The teams battled hard back-and-forth over the two 10-minute overtime periods with neither team able to score. The Dutchmen had a 4-2 shot advantage in the first period, putting three shots on goal. Neither team was able to get a shot off during the second overtime period to send the game to a shootout. TCNJ went first in the shootout and scored. LVC missed their first two attempts before

Ella Weidenhammer did an amazing job stuffing three straight attempts by the Lions.
Abby Rodenberger gave the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead as she made her attempt. The Lions made their fifth attempt to tie things up.
Amelia Taube stepped up for the Dutchmen and sent her first shot into the back of the cage to give the Dutchmen a thrilling victory.

- Tait scored a career-high two goals on two shots. The sophomore now has 15 career points.
- Claire Weidenhammer recorded both assists for her first two of the season. She now leads the team with eight points. The junior led the Dutchmen with five shots and three on goal.
- Ella Weidenhammer made eight saves in the cage to earn her 20th career victory.
- The Dutchmen played their fourth overtime of the year and won their first shootout in three chances.
- LVC has now won the last two meetings with TCNJ. They also defeated the Lions 5-2 in New Jersey on Sept. 14, 2000.
- Taube was the hero for the Dutchmen after another excellent defensive game.
- The win was LVC's first over a ranked team since 2016, when the Dutchmen defeated ninth-ranked William Smith 4-3 in double overtime on the second day of the Williams Smith Classic.
