ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley field hockey team scored a season-high seven goals on Wednesday evening to improve to 3-1 this year on Arnold Field with a 7-0 victory over visiting Juniata College.
Rebecca Lane and
Gracie Johnson led the scoring with two goals each.
LVC (6-4) dominated possession for most of the game and recorded a season-high 19 points on the seven goals and five assists.
Claire Weidenhammer had a shot blocked in the fourth minute. A rebound attempt by
Abby Rodenberger was saved before Lane knocked the ball over the line for her fourth goal of the season. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on and were able to score again in the eighth minute off a penalty corner. Johnson inserted the ball out to the right of the circle.
Danika Setlock received the pass and sent it back to Johnson. Johnson was able to find the back of the cage with a quick shot for her second goal of the year. LVC had three more shots in the period as Setlock had her attempt blocked before
Jillian Tait just missed wide on a penalty corner, and Weidenhammer missed wide in the final minutes.
Lauren Foster had a shot saved to begin action in the second quarter. Weidenhammer then had a shot go wide, as did Johnson. The Dutchmen added another goal off a penalty corner in the 26th minute as Weidenhammer found Johnson on the left wing after Johnson inserted the ball. A couple of minutes later, Weidenhammer put another shot just wide of the cage as LVC took a 3-0 lead into the break.
The Dutchmen came out strong to begin the second half. Foster put a shot wide and then 30 seconds later found Lane in front of the cage on a cross. Lane collected the pass and put it home for her second goal of the game. Johnson had a shot saved two minutes later and then had another shot blocked off a corner. The Dutchmen scored again in the 37th minute as Lane was on the opposite end of the play this time. She beat a defender and then sent a pass across the circle to a streaking Tait, who knocked it in. Setlock had a shot blocked, and Weidenhammer just missed the cage.
Maggie McAteer had a shot saved in the final minute of the quarter.
LVC scored two quick goals to begin the final quarter. Foster tallied her second goal of the year in the 49th minute as she poked a ball over the line that Weidenhammer was able to put past the keeper. A minute later, Weidenhammer scored her fourth goal of the year on a breakaway following an interception of a pass. The Dutchmen held strong the rest of the way to preserve the shutout, with Juniata only having a shot blocked in the 51st minute.
Inside the Box
- LVC had a 28-2 shot advantage, including 12-1 in shots on goal. They also had a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners.
- Lane had a season-high five points on two goals and one assist. It's her second multi-goal of the season. The senior took three shots.
- Johnson also scored two goals on six shots. This is her fifth career multi-goal game. The senior scored her 25th career goal.
- Weidenhammer had one goal and two assists. The junior has recorded two assists in each of the past two games. She took a game-high eight shots.
- Foster had a goal and an assist for three points. This is the sophomore's first time scoring a goal and recording an assist in the same game.
- Tait scored her third goal in the past two games while Setlock recorded the first assist of her career.
- Ella Weidenhammer made one save in the first half to earn the win in goal. Emma Mitchell played the final 23:10 and did not face a shot.
- LVC has won the last six meetings with Juniata. They have shut out the Eagles 18-0 during the stretch.
