Shaub Gives Dutchmen Thrilling Victory at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Lebanon Valley first-year Lilah Shaub scored with just over two minutes remaining to give the field hockey team a thrilling 1-0 victory at Immaculata University on Saturday morning at Draper Walsh Stadium in Immaculata.
 
The Dutchmen (4-3) controlled possession for most of the game and outshot the Mighty Macs (3-5) 25-3, including a big 15-0 advantage in the first quarter. Rebecca Lane sent a shot wide in the second minute before Claire Weidenhammer had a shot saved late in the fourth minute. LVC earned three penalty corners over the next couple of minutes and was able to get shots off on each.
 
Weidenhammer had a shot go wide before Abby Rodenberger had her shot saved. Danika Setlock's rebound attempt was blocked. Weidenhammer had her shot attempt on the third corner blocked, and Joanna Ehrhart sent a shot wide. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on as Weidenhammer had her shot off a corner in the 10th minute, saved by the keeper. Rodenberger and Lane had shots blocked, and Weidenhammer had another shot off a penalty corner in the final seconds of the quarter saved.
 
Immaculata earned its first penalty corner of the game in the 20th minute, with Ella Weidenhammer coming up with a big save of the first shot she faced. A rebound attempt was blocked. LVC earned a pair of corners a minute later, with Setlock getting a shot off the second corner. Her blast was saved to keep the game scoreless. The teams battled over the final eight minutes of the half, with neither team able to get off a shot until Lane sent an attempt wide in the 29th minute.
 
The Mighty Macs got off the first shot in the second half as Ella Weidenhammer made a save on a shot late in the 35th minute. The Dutchmen came right back as Jillian Tait had a shot blocked and then put two shots wide. The Mighty Macs had a pair of penalty corners over the rest of the quarter, but both defenses did an excellent job not allowing a shot over the final eight minutes.
 
LVC came out aggressively in the fourth quarter. Gracie Johnson had a shot blocked in the 50th minute before the Dutchmen earned a corner in the 54th minute. Setlock had her shot blocked off the corner to earn a second corner. Johnson hit the post in the 55th minute, and a minute later, Lauren Foster nearly scored as her shot attempt was saved. LVC earned a penalty corner in the 58th minute. The Dutchmen worked it around, and Shaub was able to knock the ball into the back of the cage with 2:07 on the clock for the go-ahead goal. The Dutchmen rode the momentum of having the lead to shut down any chance of a comeback.

The Dutchmen will have a pair of home games this weekend after a lengthy streak of road games. LVC will host Dickinson College on Wednesday evening with a 7 p.m. start at Arnold Field.
