EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Abrielle Miller scored the game-winning goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team in the 37
th minute, leading the program to a 1-0 victory over Wilkes University on Saturday, Sept. 13 at
Bruggeworth Field. The Flying Dutchmen have won their first five matchups to begin the year.
The Dutchmen (5-0-0) and the Colonels (2-2-1) went back and forth defensively early in the game, as neither program took a shot for over five minutes at the start. Wilkes registered the first shot of the afternoon 5:37 into the first half, and goalkeeper
Camryn Porter delivered a save for Lebanon Valley. The Flying Dutchmen countered with a pair of offensive opportunities, as
Kalei Noonan put shots on goal that were saved at the 9:23 and 10:00 marks.
The teams proceeded to battle on the defensive end for over 11 minutes, until Noonan sent a shot above the upper-right corner of the net at the 21:10 mark. Miller also contributed to LVC's offensive efforts, as the forward took a shot on goal that was saved at 22:26 into the contest. This was followed by another attempt by Noonan that went over the upper-right corner of the net at the 25:59 mark, and a try by
Jayme Beninda for Lebanon Valley, which went high at the 31:40 mark.
The Dutchmen got on the scoreboard 36:43 into the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead over the Colonels. Miller put LVC ahead by sending a shot into the net for an unassisted goal. Lebanon Valley's defense was also stellar through the end of the first, preventing the opposition from taking a shot through the rest of the stanza. The program limited Wilkes to just one shot during the first 45 minutes of the contest, which came in the sixth minute. This dominance contributed to the Flying Dutchmen taking their one-goal advantage into halftime.
The squads competed defensively early in the second half, as a shot on goal wasn't recorded for over eight minutes at the beginning. Wilkes recorded the first shot attempt of the stanza, which was blocked by LVC at the 52:05 mark. Miller then took a shot for Lebanon Valley at the 53:03 mark, which was saved. The Colonels responded with an attempt on goal 57:24 into the game, and Porter delivered another important save for the Dutchmen. This was followed by over 11 minutes of strong defense, as neither side logged a shot during this stretch. Wilkes attempted a shot at the 68:50 mark, but LVC blocked this try.
Miller resumed Lebanon Valley's scoring efforts at the 72:49 mark, sending the ball to the right of the net. Beninda later put a shot on goal for LVC, which was saved 81:32 into the game. The Dutchmen proceeded to continue their dominant defensive performance through the rest of the second half, holding Wilkes to just one shot during the remaining minutes.
