ANNVILLE, Pa. – Jordan Lasky netted the game-winning goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team late in the second half, propelling the program to a 1-0 victory over Moravian University in its season opener on Friday, Aug. 29 at Herbert Field.
The Dutchmen (1-0-0) and the Greyhounds (0-1-0) battled defensively throughout the first half, keeping each other off the scoreboard during the first 45 minutes of the game. LVC generated an offensive opportunity just 1:24 into the contest, as
Kalei Noonan sent a shot to the left of the net.
Alison Sepkovic then put a shot on goal for the program at the 5:42 mark, but this attempt was saved by Moravian's goalkeeper.
The teams proceeded to go back and forth for 13 minutes, until
Kennedy Dings sent a shot over the net for Lebanon Valley.
Megan Ressler also worked to create scoring chances for the program, kicking a shot to the left of the net at the 21:55 mark. Moravian later countered with its first shot of the afternoon, as an attempt went left of the net 28:20 into the first half. The defenses of the Flying Dutchmen and the Greyhounds kept each other from tallying a shot during the remainder of the opening stanza, prompting the squads to enter halftime in a 0-0 tie.
Lasky registered the first shot on goal of the second half for Lebanon Valley, as the senior's attempt was saved at the 47:01 mark. Sepkovic then sent a shot toward the net that was saved just 1:24 later. Moravian responded with its first shot on goal of the day, and goalkeeper
Camryn Porter came through with the save at the 49:11 mark. The programs followed this by going back and forth for over 15 minutes, as neither squad logged a shot on goal until LVC's
Emilee Walborn had a try saved 64:34 into the contest. Ressler also generated an offensive opportunity by taking a shot that was saved at the 68:45 mark.
The Greyhounds created some scoring chances as well, sending three shots over the net during a 53-second stretch that began in the 74
th minute. Moravian then put a shot on goal at the 77:35 mark, and Porter delivered another key stop. The Dutchmen later got on the board with 3:17 remaining in the game, taking a 1-0 lead.
Abrielle Miller put a shot on goal that was saved by the Greyhounds' goalkeeper, and off the deflection, Lasky sent the ball off the inside of the right post before it rolled into the left corner of the net for a goal. Moravian attempted to even the score with a shot on goal at the 87:09 mark, but Porter made another big save to maintain LVC's lead. Lebanon Valley would hold this advantage through the end of the game, securing the team's first victory of the year.
