Porter’s Goal Fuels Men’s Soccer’s Season-Opening Win Over Lancaster Bible

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– JJ Porter scored his first career goal for the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team, providing the game-winner in the program's season-opening victory over Lancaster Bible College on Friday, Aug. 29, under the lights at Arnold Field. 

The Dutchmen (1-0-0) and the Chargers (0-1-0) went back and forth defensively early in the game, keeping each other from taking a shot for over 15 minutes at the start. Lebanon Valley recorded the first attempt of the night, as Nathan Kimball sent a shot toward the goalkeeper that was saved 15:05 into the first half. Will Burton also contributed to the program's offensive efforts, putting a shot on goal that was saved at the 18:26 mark. Nathan Prex created a scoring chance as well, as his try was saved 22:18 into the opening stanza. 

Lancaster Bible countered with a shot on goal at the 30:50 mark, but goalkeeper Ethan Bazydola was there to make the save for LVC. Lebanon Valley remained productive defensively through the rest of the first half, holding the opposition to just two shots without an attempt on goal during the remaining minutes. The programs went into halftime in a 0-0 tie. 

The Flying Dutchmen and Chargers also battled on the defensive end early in the second half, as neither squad took a shot for over six minutes at the beginning. Burton generated an offensive opportunity for LVC at the 51:09 mark, putting a shot on goal that was saved. Ethan Groff also worked to create a scoring chance, sending a shot to the left of the net 59:52 into the contest. 

Lebanon Valley broke the scoreless tie 66:56 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over Lancaster Bible. Porter got the program on the board with a shot that got past the goalkeeper and ended up in the left side of the net. Prex was credited with the assist on the game-winning goal. The Dutchmen remained aggressive offensively during the rest of the game, taking six more shots with two attempts on goal. During this stretch, Prex took two shots while Burton, Jack Bowman, Ben Ammon, and Simon Grimes each tallied a try. Bowman and Burton put their shots on goal. 

The Flying Dutchmen were also stellar defensively during the second half, keeping the Chargers from taking a shot during the final stanza. This dominant effort prompted Lebanon Valley to maintain its one-goal advantage through the end of the game, securing the program's first victory of the 2025 campaign.

The Dutchmen will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 4 p.m., when the team will host Muhlenberg College for its first matchup at Herbert Field this season.
