ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 15-13 decision to visiting Arcadia University on Arnold Field in Annville on Wednesday afternoon in a close game. The Dutchmen battled saw a late rally fall just short after the Knights used a strong second half to take a six-goal lead.
LVC (6-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom) was led by
Jake Bollinger who scored the first goal of the game in the first minute on the first shot. The Knights (8-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom) responded with the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead with 10:15 remaining.
Jacob Mrose then found
Jacob Olson open for the tying goal.
Trey Ralston gave the Dutchmen back the lead with a man-up goal late in the opportunity as Bollinger found him right in front of the crease. The Knights called a timeout and answered right back with three goals over the next three minutes to take a 5-3 advantage. Bollinger was able to cut the deficit to one with an unassisted goal in the final minute, but Arcadia scored with six seconds left to take a 6-4 advantage into the second quarter.
The Dutchmen came out strong to the second period as
Nick Gleason scored his second goal of the season a little over three minutes in. Arcadia struck right back to regain a two-goal lead.
Ethan Keenan fired a shot into the back of the net off a pass from
John Lux to make it 7-6 with a little under 10 to play in the half. The Knights hit the post and scored off the rebound to push the lead back to two goals. Bollinger hit the pos at the other end of the field before scoring his third goal of the game with 3:54 on the clock to get the Dutchmen back within one. LVC had a great look to even the score with a little over a minute left, but Jacob Larue had his shot saved by the Knights goalie.
Arcadia came out of the halftime break and scored twice in the first five minutes to push the lead to 10-7.
Sheadan Makosy stopped the run as he fired a long shot into the empty net for his second goal of the season after a failed clear attempt for the Knights. The Knights answered with an unassisted goal to increase the lead to 11-8 with 5:21 left in the quarter. Arcadia controlled possession for most of the remaining time in the quarter, but the Dutchmen defense held the Knights off the scoreboard.
Neither team was able to score over the first five minutes of the fourth until Arcadia found the back of the net to make it 12-8. The Dutchmen scored a minute later as Bollinger recorded his fourth goal of the game. Arcadia countered with three consecutive goals to take the biggest lead of the game at 15-9 with 4:24 left. The Dutchmen battled valiantly and started a late scoring attack with 1:20 left as
Hayden Carling scored his eighth goal of the season. The Knights were called for a penalty, and the Dutchmen took full advantage as Ralston found Keenan over the middle 11 seconds later. The scoring continued as Ralston picked up a ground ball and fired a shot for his 18th goal of the year with just over a minute to play. LVC won the following faceoff, and Bollinger scored his fifth goal of the game with 39 second left to cut it to 15-13. LVC was able to win the next faceoff, but Arcadia forced a turnover and then was able to run out the clock to hold on for the victory.
Inside the Box
- Bollinger led the Dutchmen with six points on five goals and one assist. The attacker fired off a team-high 14 shots and put eight on goal. He went over the 175-goal mark in his career and now has 178 goals and 251 points.
- Ralston had three points on two goals and an assist. The senior has scored at least two goals in four of the last five games.
- Keenan scored two goals on four shots. The sophomore has scored in nine of the 12 games this season.
- Makosy, Carling, Gleason, and Olson scored a goal each. Makosy led the defense with four ground balls and one caused turnover. Gleason had three ground balls while Mitchell Gearhart and Liam Hogan also had three ground balls each.
- The Dutchmen had a 45-37 shot advantage in the game including a 26-21 advantage in shots on goal. LVC was 23-for-26 on clear attempts and 2-for-5 on extra man opportunities.

LVC will look to rebound on Saturday as the Dutchmen head to Doylestown for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Aggies of Delaware Valley University.
