Men’s Lacrosse Begins Conference Play with Victory at King’s

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Lacrosse team began Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play with a 15-7 victory over host King's College on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.
 
LVC (6-5, 1-0 MAC Freedom) jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the Monarchs (1-9, 0-2 MAC Freedom) in the first half of the opening quarter. Trey Ralston scored the first goal of the game off a pass by John Lux just 33 seconds in. Ralston then assisted Ethan Keenan a couple minutes later to double the lead. Ralston added another assist as Lux scored his first goal of the game to push the advantage to 3-0. Jake Bollinger scored an unassisted goal with 7:25 on the clock to force King's to call a timeout down four goals. The Monarchs responded with a pair of back-to-back goals in a span of 12 seconds to cut the deficit down to 4-2 with 4:24 on the clock. Rowan Myers scored off a pass by Ryan Hendrixson with 1:25 left to give the Dutchmen a 5-2 lead after the first period of play.
 
The Dutchmen put early pressure on the Monarchs in the second quarter but shots by Lux, and Keenan were saved. Bollinger was able to increase the lead with the first goal of the quarter off a feed from Nick Gleason to make it 6-2 with 10:26 remaining in the half. That goal winded up being the only goal of the quarter as the Dutchmen outshot the Monarchs 9-2 in the period and forced nine turnovers. Bollinger nearly scored with a little over three minutes to play but his shot hit the post and bounced back onto the field.
 
King's came out of the locker room strong for the second half and scored on the first possession. The Monarchs added a goal with 9:41 left to cut the lead down to 6-4. LVC answered right back as Ralston tallied an unassisted goal less than a minute later. The Dutchmen kept things going as Lux scored off an assist by Myers to increase the advantage to four goals. LVC added two more goals in the final two minutes of the quarter to push the lead to 10-4. Lux completed his hat trick with 1:42 on the clock before Myers scored off a rebound with 21 seconds left.
 
The Monarchs began the fourth quarter with a goal in the first minute on the opening possession. LVC responded with a goal by Sean Poole off an assist by Ralston to make it 11-5. Ralston then scored off a pass from Garret Harmon. King's scored less than a minute later before LVC countered with a pair of quick goals on back-to-back possessions. Easley Pierson scored 10 seconds after a faceoff before Lux added his fourth goal a minute later to push the advantage to 14-6 with 10 minutes remaining. The teams went the next six minutes without a goal until King's was able to score with 3:41 on the clock. LVC scored in the final minute as Daulton Krall scored his first collegiate goal off an assist by Trevor Moore to set the final score.
 
Inside the Box
  • Ralston led the Dutchmen with six points on three goals and three assists. The senior also had seven ground balls. Ralston recorded his third hat trick of the season on six shots.
  • Lux had five points on a game-high four goals and one assist. The graduate student took seven shots to record his season-high goal total. His four goals tie the most he has scored in a game at LVC.
  • Myers had three points on two goals and an assist. He also picked up three ground balls.
  • Bollinger scored a pair of goals on five shots. The graduate student finishes his career with 20 goals against the Monarchs in five meetings.
  • Poole, Keenan, Pierson, and Krall each scored a goal apiece.
  • Sheadan Makosy led the team with nine ground balls. Zach Wanous and Connor Sample had two caused turnover each.
  • Kellen Markley made 13 saves in goal.
  • The Dutchmen had a 42-35 shot advantage and were 30-for-31 on clear attempts.
  • LVC improved to 5-0 on the road this season.
