MADISON, N.J. – Sean Poole recorded the second hat trick of his career with three goals as the Lebanon Valley Men's Lacrosse team dropped a tough 11-10 decision at FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening at Robert Shields Field in Madison.
The host Devils (10-5, 3-3 MAC Freedom) scored first in the tightly contested game on the first possession just 16 seconds in. The Dutchmen (7-9, 2-4 MAC Freedom) had a pair of shots go high by
Sheadan Makosy before they were able to even the score up on Poole's first goal of the game. Trey Ralson had the assist on the goal with 9:29 to go in the first quarter. Ralston then gave LVC the lead with an unassisted goal as he picked up a ground ball off a turnover in LVC's offensive end and scored. The lead stood until there was 25 seconds left in the quarter as the Devils scored to make it 2-2 after the first 15 minutes.
FDU-Florham was called for a penalty in the first minute of the second quarter and the Dutchmen answered 14 seconds into the extra-man opportunity as
Jake Bollinger scored to put LVC back on top.
Jacob Mrose increased the lead to 4-2 with an unassisted goal with 10:44 on the clock. Four minutes later, Poole scored his second goal of the game to make it a three-goal lead. The Devils were able to score a man-up goal with just under three minutes to play in the half that cut the lead to 5-3.
Poole hit the post in the first few minutes of the second half on the Dutchmen's first offensive possession. FDU was able to cut the lead in half with the first goal of the third quarter with just over nine minutes on the clock. Neither team was able to score until Poole completed his hat trick with 40 seconds left off an assist by Mrose.
John Lux increased the lead to 7-4 a couple minutes into the fourth quarter as Ralston dished out his second assist of the game. The Devils responded right back with a goal. They tied the game up with a pair of quick goals just 13 seconds apart with nine minutes left in the game. The Devils took the lead on a man-up goal a little over two minutes later. They continued their scoring run with another goal to go up 9-7 with 6:13 to play.
The Dutchmen were able to tie the game back up at nine with a pair of goals in the final four minutes. Bollinger scored his second goal of the game on a long shot from the middle of the field.
Rowan Myers then tied the game up with a close range shot on the right side with 2:39 left. The Devils answered with a pair of quick goals, scoring just six seconds after LVC tied the game, and then scoring with 1:13 on the clock. The Devils were called for a penalty after the second goal and the Dutchmen were able to score on the extra-man opportunity as
Ethan Keenan found the back of the net off a pass from Ralston. The Dutchmen had a chance to tie the game at the end, but Bollinger's shot was saved by the FDU goalie.
Inside the Box
- Poole tied his career-high of three goals on five shots. The junior recorded his second hat trick of the year.
- Ralston led the Dutchmen in points with four on one goal and four assists. The senior has recorded three assists in each of the past three games.
- Bollinger scored two goals on a team-high nine shots. Mrose had two points on one goal and an assist. The senior scored his 10th career goal.
- Lux, Keenan, and Myers had a goal each. Keenan extended his point streak to 10 games.
- Easley Pierson picked up a team-high four ground balls and caused one turnover.
- Makosy, Jacob LaRue, and Zach Wanous had three ground balls apiece.
- Kellen Markley made 16 saves.

The Dutchmen will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with the annual Crosse Out Cancer game against 11th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. on Arnold Field.
