Strong Singles Play Powers Dutchmen at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Tennis team won five of the six singles matches to earn an important 5-2 victory at DeSales University on Tuesday afternoon in Center Valley.
 
The Dutchmen (9-10, 3-1 MAC Freedom) began a big three-match week to close out the regular season with a big road win in a rematch of last year's MAC Freedom Semifinal. DeSales (2-12, 0-4 MAC Freedom) earned the doubles point to start the match with wins at number two and number three doubles. LVC responded strong in singles play as they won the top five flights to come away with their third consecutive win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Zach Schrader and Jake Erb had the Dutchmen's lone win in doubles play with a 7-6 (7-4) victory in a closely played match at number one. Schrader and Erb evened their conference record to 2-2 and won their fifth match of the year in doubles.
  • Erb was the first singles court to finish as the junior won 6-0, 6-1 at number two. He improved to 3-1 in conference play.
  • Jared Hostetter gave the Dutchmen the lead at number four singles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. The sophomore won his third consecutive match and fifth total of the season.
  • Michael Schuetz was the next court to finish at number three with a 6-2, 6-3 win. The senior improved to 3-1 in conference play as he put the Dutchmen on the verge of winning the match.
  • Antonio Scaramuzzino clinched the victory at number five singles as he rallied in the second set to win 6-3, 6-4. The sophomore was down 4-1 in the second set before winning the final five games. He has won his last three matches to even his record up at 3-3.
  • Schrader needed three sets at number one singles but dominated the third set for a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 victory to close out the match. The first-year improved to 3-1 in conference matches and won his 10th singles match of the year.
Up Next
Lebanon Valley will be back on the road this Thursday with a trip north up I-81 to Wilkes-Barre where they will take on King's College at 3 p.m. at Kirby Park. A win against the Monarchs would clinch a spot in the conference tournament for the Dutchmen.
