ANNVILLE, Pa. – Logan Brewer hit two home runs and recorded three RBIs for the Lebanon Valley College Baseball team, helping lead the program to a 12-6 victory over FDU-Florham in the series opener on Friday, April 18, at McGill Field.
Jace Fetterman and
Spencer Butz were also key contributors for LVC, driving in three runs each.
Trey Dianna started on the mound for the Dutchmen (18-15-1, 11-5 MAC Freedom) and pitched a scoreless top of the first inning, retiring the Devils (13-20, 5-11 MAC Freedom) in order with a strikeout looking, an impressive leaping catch by right fielder
Kenny Palmieri, and a foul out to Brewer at first base. Lebanon Valley then got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, taking an early 2-0 lead. Butz got things started by lining a two-out single up the middle before Brewer crushed a two-run homer over the center-field wall.
Dianna also tossed a 1-2-3 inning for LVC in the top of the second, registering a strikeout looking, a lineout to Butz in center field, and a strikeout swinging. The Flying Dutchmen followed this with four runs in the bottom half of the second, extending their advantage to 6-0. The program loaded the bases with no outs after
Tyler Satterfield doubled to center field, a bunt single to third base by
Carter Enders, and a walk by Palmieri.
Dylan Mennillo then hit a ball back toward the mound and reached on a fielder's choice but the pitcher threw the ball past the catcher, allowing Satterfield to score. Berry followed this with an RBI fielder's choice to third base, knocking in Enders. Later in the frame, Butz hit a two-run single through the right side to plate Mennillo and Berry.
FDU-Florham countered with a run in the top of the third inning, narrowing its deficit to 6-1 on an RBI single up the middle. There were runners on first and second base when the single was hit, and Butz threw out the runner who was at first attempting to advance to third. The Devils also scored four runs in the top of the fourth, making it a 6-5 game on an RBI fielder's choice to shortstop, an RBI single through the left side, and a two-run home run to left field.
Dianna delivered a shutout top of the fifth inning for Lebanon Valley, retiring the side in order with a groundout to Berry at shortstop, a strikeout looking, and a foul out to Brewer at first base. Dianna also posted a zero in the top of the sixth, logging the third out of the frame with a fielder's choice to Berry at shortstop, who threw the ball to Mennillo at second for the out. The Dutchmen then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 9-5 lead. Fetterman came up to the plate with runners on the corners with no outs and drove a two-run double to left-center field while advancing to third on the throw, knocking in Mennillo and Berry. Butz followed this with a sacrifice fly that the left fielder caught in left-center field, bringing in Fetterman.
Michael Williams came out of the bullpen to pitch for the Flying Dutchmen in the top of the seventh inning, and the graduate student struck out the side in order. Lebanon Valley then tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, going up 11-5. Satterfield led off the frame with a double to right-center field, and pinch-runner
Ryan Schulman came home to score on Enders' RBI single up the middle. Later in the inning, Fetterman came through with a two-out RBI single to right field, driving in Enders.
Williams also recorded a zero in the top of the eighth inning for LVC, picking up two strikeouts before fielding a groundout himself for the third out. The Dutchmen added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, as Brewer launched a solo homer over the right-center field wall to make it a 12-5 contest. FDU-Florham responded with a solo home run to left field in the top of the ninth inning, narrowing the score to 12-6. Reliever
Landon Sexton proceeded to notch the third out of the frame with a strikeout swinging, securing Lebanon Valley's victory.

- Butz matched a game-high and season-high two base hits while tying a game-high and season-high three RBIs. The junior also stole a base and scored a run. Butz has now scored in each of his last five games. The center fielder also had his first assist in the outfield for LVC.
- Berry had a base hit to extend his hitting streak to four while recording an RBI and tying a game-high two runs scored. The junior has crossed the plate in each of his last seven games.
- Enders tied a game-high two hits while registering a walk, an RBI, and a stolen base. The first-year also tied a game-high and season-high two runs scored.
- Mennillo tied a game-high and season-high two hits while tying a game-high and season-high two runs scored. The sophomore also stole a base.
- Satterfield tied a game-high two hits with a game-high and career-high two doubles while scoring a run.
- Schulman picked up his first career base hit and scored a run.
- Palmieri logged a hit to extend his hitting streak to six while drawing a walk and stealing a base.
- Dianna earned his third win of the season by tying a season-high five strikeouts in six innings of work.
- Williams tied a career-high five strikeouts in two shutout frames of relief.
- Sexton struck out a season-high three batters in his inning out of the bullpen.
