Men’s Tennis Splits Two Matches on Rainy Saturday

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Tennis team capped off a long day with a 6-1 victory over Penn State Altoona after dropping a 7-0 decision to 39th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday in Annville.

The Dutchmen (6-10) were able to find a period of dryness in the afternoon to take on the Ducks in a rematch of last year's MAC Freedom Championship on the outdoor courts of the Shankroff Tennis Center. Stevens (7-5, 2-0 MAC Freedom) was able to sweep the Dutchmen winning all nine matches. LVC then turned its attention to Penn State Altoona for a night match in both team's second match of the day. The teams were prepared to start the match outdoors when it started to rain again moving the match inside the Arnold Sports Center. The Dutchmen swept all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match and then won five of the six singles matches with all but one singles match needing three sets.

  • Vincent Thompson and Jared Hostetter earned a 6-3 win at number three doubles for their first win as a duo.

  • Erb also rallied after dropping the first set to record a three-set victory at number two singles. He won 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) in a thrilling match.

  • Hostetter was the only court not to go three sets or need a tiebreaker against Altoona with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at number five singles.
  • Antonio Scaramuzzino wrapped up the night with a great 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-8) victory at number six for his second consecutive singles win.
