ANNVILLE, Pa. – Kody Phillips,
Tyler Satterfield, and
Carter Enders each drove in two runs for the Lebanon Valley College Baseball team, leading the club to a 9-3 victory in its series opener against Delaware Valley University on Friday, March 28, at McGill Field. The Flying Dutchmen received contributions from several members of their lineup, as five players recorded RBIs and six scored runs.
The Aggies (2-18, 0-7 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single down the right-field line and an RBI single to right-center field. The Dutchmen (8-13-1, 3-4 MAC Freedom) answered right back in the bottom half of the first, going ahead 3-2. The program got things started with a single to third base by
Owen Berry and a walk by
Jace Fetterman, putting runners on first and second with no outs.
Spencer Butz then drove an RBI double to left-center field, plating Berry. Phillips later hit a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Fetterman. Satterfield followed this with an RBI single to left-center field, knocking in Butz to put LVC up by a run.
Delaware Valley countered with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the second, tying the game at 3-3. Lebanon Valley responded once again in the bottom of the second, taking a 4-3 advantage.
Kenny Palmieri led off the frame with a double down the left-field line and later came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Berry. Starting pitcher
Jacob Detwiler then delivered a scoreless top of the third inning for LVC, retiring the side in order with a strikeout swinging, a flyout to Palmieri in right field, and a groundout to Berry at shortstop.
The Flying Dutchmen added two more runs in the bottom of the third, extending their lead to 6-3. The club began the rally with a leadoff single to shortstop by Butz and a double down the right-field line by
Logan Brewer, putting runners on second and third base with no outs. Phillips followed this by lining an RBI single to left-center field, driving in Butz. Satterfield then hit a sacrifice fly down the right-field line, allowing Brewer to cross the plate. In the top of the fourth inning, Detwiler blanked the opposition again by logging a flyout to Butz in left-center field, a groundout to
Dylan Mennillo at second base, and a flyout to Butz in center.
Detwiler also kept the Aggies off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, notching third out of the frame with a strikeout swinging to strand runners on first and second base. Lebanon Valley tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, going up 8-3. Butz led off the inning with a walk before Brewer hit a double down the right-field line, and a throwing error by the right fielder allowed Butz to score on the play. Enders later hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Brewer.
Michael Williams then came out of the bullpen to pitch for LVC in the top of the sixth and maintained the program's lead by recording the final two outs of the frame. The graduate student closed out the inning with a strikeout swinging and a fielder's choice to shortstop.
Williams also posted a zero for the Dutchmen in the top of the seventh inning, registering a strikeout swinging, a flyout to Palmieri in right field, and another strikeout swinging for a 1-2-3 frame. Lebanon Valley then added an insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh, making it a 9-3 ballgame. Phillips led off the inning with a single to left-center field before Satterfield singled to right-center field, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Enders then hit an RBI single to center field, knocking in Phillips.
Williams continued his strong relief outing in the top of the eighth, tossing a shutout inning with a strikeout looking, a flyout to right field, and a strikeout swinging.
Landon Sexton then entered the contest to pitch for Lebanon Valley in the top of the ninth inning and closed out the program's 9-3 victory with a scoreless frame. The first-year pitcher recorded the final out of the win on a fielder's choice, as Enders fielded a ground ball at third and threw to Mennillo at second base for the force out.

- Detwiler earned his second win of the year, striking out five batters in 5.1 innings of work.
- Williams delivered a career-high five strikeouts in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
