Four Dutchmen Score Against Potsdam

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Lacrosse team had four different goal scorers on Monday afternoon in a 16-4 defeat to visiting SUNY Potsdam on Arnold Field in Annville.
 
The Bears (2-1) jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter behind strong play in goal by Saka Thompson, an Honorable Mention All-American in 2024. The first five minutes went scoreless behind strong defensive play by both teams. Potsdam got on the board with just over nine minutes to play with the first goal of the game. LVC (3-3) answered back a couple minutes later as Ryan Hendrixson found Jacob Mrose open in the middle of the field for his second goal of the season. The Bears scored five time over the final 4:16 of the period to take a 6-1 advantage.
 
The lead extended to 7-1 four minutes into the second as Potsdam scored after Kellen Markley made a save on the first shot attempt. LVC took advantage of an extra-man opportunity as John Lux scored his seventh of the season off a feed from Trey Ralston. The Dutchmen cut the deficit to four two minutes later as Hayden Carling scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 7-3. The Bears scored in the last two minutes of the half to push the lead to five at the break.
 
Potsdam came out of the halftime break and scored right away. They held the Dutchmen scoreless during the third quarter while scoring three more times to push the advantage up to 12-3. The Bears outshot the Dutchmen 13-5 in the period and won all five faceoffs. Potsdam continued the streak of goals into the fourth quarter building a 15-3 lead with five minutes to play. Sam Spagnuolo scored his first collegiate goal for the Dutchmen with four minutes left before Potsdam scored with a minute to go to set the final score.
 
Inside the Box
  • Carling scored for the fourth consecutive game with his fifth goal of the year on six shots. The sophomore has scored in five of the six games so far this season.
  • Lux scored his seventh goal of the season and 31st at LVC. He scored his first man-up goal of the season and third of his Dutchmen career.
  • Mrose scored for the second consecutive game to give him eight goals in his career.
  • Spagnuolo scored his first career goal while Ralson and Hendrixson had an assist each. Ralston's assist was his fifth of the season and 59th of his career moving him into a tie for fourth in program history.
  • Markley finished the game with 14 saves.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will wrap up a stretch of three games in six days on Wednesday as they host Susquehanna University at 4 p.m. on Arnold Field. LVC is looking for its third win of the year over a Landmark Conference opponent after beating Goucher and Wilkes on the road the past two Saturdays.
