Dutchmen Women’s Ice Hockey Clinches Postseason Berth with Victory Over King’s

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– The Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey clinched a spot in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Tournament, as the program defeated King's College 4-1 on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Hersheypark. The Flying Dutchmen received contributions from several players during the victory, including goals by Cheyenne Wilk, Anna Dale, Chelly, Wolff, and Sky Campanile

The Dutchmen (14-5-1, 11-4-1 MAC) took the first shot on goal of the game, as Maeghan Howson sent a puck toward the net that was saved 50 seconds into the first period. The Monarchs (5-13-3, 5-10-3) followed this with some scoring chances, and Lebanon Valley's defense responded with a save by goaltender Lacy Bigelow at the 1:42 mark, a block by Erin Yorke at the 3:54 mark, and a block by Julia Schafer at the 4:47 mark. LVC's offense also kept tallying shots as the frame went on, as Wilk took a shot that was saved 5:09 into the first before Dale's attempt was saved at the 6:33 mark.

The Flying Dutchmen followed this by generating more offensive opportunities, as the team put six shots on goal over the next 8:39. During this stretch, Wolff and Tiffany Anderson each tallied an attempt within 38 seconds in the 13th minute. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring 16:24 into the first, taking a 1-0 lead over King's. The program got on the board when Wilk sent an unassisted goal into the back of the net. Defensively, the Dutchmen proceeded to cap off the period with a save by Bigelow and a block by Laura Radford within 26 seconds in the final minute. 

Lebanon Valley remained aggressive offensively when the second period began, logging six shots on goal within the first 4:01, including three during a power play. Anderson contributed to these efforts with three shots that were saved during this stretch, including one during the power play. The Monarchs countered with some scoring chances, and the Flying Dutchmen answered with a save by Bigelow at the 6:40 mark before Jess Dawe blocked a shot 13 seconds later. Bigelow then posted a pair of stops within six seconds in the eighth minute. LVC also continued to register shots as the frame went on, as Yorke took a shot that was saved 7:31 into the period before Anderson's try was saved at the 8:27 mark.

Lebanon Valley kept battling defensively as the second period progressed as well, as Bigelow delivered more saves at the 9:59 and 11:16 marks. This was followed by Schafer blocking a shot attempt by the Monarchs 14:40 into the frame. The Dutchmen then found the net again 15:47 into the second, taking a 2-0 advantage. The squad went up by two when Dale netted a goal after an assist by Addison Taylert. The program also continued its strong defensive effort through the rest of the period, keeping the opposition from taking a shot on goal during the remaining minutes. During this stretch, Norah McCauliffe helped hold the opposition in check with a block at the 16:54 mark, and Dale blocked a shot attempt by King's at the 18:49 mark. 

The Flying Dutchmen didn't waste any time adding to their lead when the third period got underway, as the program made it a 3-0 game just 53 seconds into the frame. The team tacked on a point with a goal by Wolff, following assists by Leela Nemani and Radford. Lebanon Valley also kept sending shots toward the net as the frame progressed, recording five attempts over the next 6:58, including two tries during a power play. The Dutchmen then added another tally 7:52 into the third, extending their lead to 4-0. The program went ahead by four on a power-play goal by Campanile, courtesy of assists by Dale and Yorke. 

The teams proceeded to go back and forth defensively for over three minutes, as neither side put a shot on goal during this stretch. The Monarchs then got on the scoreboard 11:10 into the third period, narrowing the score to 4-1 on a goal by Brighton Wallin. Lebanon Valley followed this by continuing its strong defensive effort, as Anderson blocked a shot at the 11:45 mark before Bigelow came through with saves at the 13:29 and 14:18 marks. Howson also made an impact defensively, blocking a shot attempt 16:27 into the third while each program had four skaters on the ice. King's kept taking shots as the end of the contest neared as well, but Bigelow responded with a stop at the 17:29 mark before making four important saves for LVC within 33 seconds in the 19th minute. The goaltender faced another shot with nine seconds left and posted a save to secure the 4-1 win for the Dutchmen.

  • Lebanon Valley clinched its third postseason berth in program history, as the team appeared in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Tournament twice. The victory over the Monarchs earned the Dutchmen a spot in the inaugural MAC Women's Ice Hockey Tournament.  
  • Dale scored her conference-leading 18th goal of the season, which marked the sophomore's fifth game-winner of the campaign. Dale also dished out the primary assist on Campanile's goal. The sophomore now leads the MAC with 29 points this winter.
  • Wilk netted her sixth goal of the season. 
  • Wolff found the net for the second time this winter. 
  • Campanile scored her sixth goal of the campaign. 
  • Taylert tallied an assist on Dale's goal.
  • Nemani and Radford were credited with the assists on Wolff's goal. 
  • Yorke also recorded an assist on Campanile's goal. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot King's 38-16.
  • Dale recorded a game-high 11 shots on goal.
  • Bigelow made 15 saves during the victory. The goaltender also recorded her seventh win of the campaign, which ties a single-season program record. 
  • Defensively, the Flying Dutchmen blocked 11 shots. 
  • Schafer tied a game-high three blocks. 
  • Howson also blocked two shot attempts by the Monarchs.
  • LVC had a 32-11 advantage in faceoff victories.
  • Nemani and Howson tied for the game-high in faceoff wins, as they each went 11-3.

Lebanon Valley will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 9, when the team will travel to take on Wilkes University at the Toyota SportsPlex in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
