READING, Pa. – Maeghan Howson scored a goal for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team, as program dropped a close 2-1 game in overtime to Alvernia University on Friday, Feb. 21, at Body Zone.
Goaltender
Mia Frisoni delivered a pair of stops for the Dutchmen (16-7-1, 13-6-1 MAC) early in the game, making a save on a shot by the Golden Wolves (14-9-2, 10-9-2 MAC) 24 seconds into the first period before posting another at the 2:19 mark. Lebanon Valley also created some scoring chances during the frame, as
Anna Dale and
Addison Taylert each put a shot on goal that was saved within six seconds in the fifth minute.
Cheyenne Wilk also contributed to these efforts, registering an attempt 5:14 into the first. The Flying Dutchmen kept producing defensively as the period progressed as well, as Frisoni recorded six more saves over the next 5:41. During this stretch,
Chelly Wolff and
Leela Nemani also both tallied a block for LVC.
Lebanon Valley worked to generate offensive opportunities as the opening period went on, as
Alex Franke took a shot on goal that was saved at the 12:16 mark before
Tiffany Anderson had tries saved at the 13:46 and 14:06 marks. Wilk followed this by sending a puck toward the net that was saved 14:56 into the first. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni had saves at the 15:11 and 16:42 marks. The Dutchmen later went on a power play that began in the 18
th minute, leading to Wilk and Howson each putting a shot on goal within three seconds in the 18
th minute. Dale also logged an attempt that was saved with 45 seconds left in the first.
Alvernia went on a power play during the first minute of the second period, and Frisoni responded with two saves for LVC within 13 seconds in the second minute. During this penalty kill for the Flying Dutchmen,
Laura Radford also came through with a block at the 2:38 mark. Lebanon Valley sent a shot toward the net as well, as Dale had an attempt saved 3:42 into the second. Defensively, Frisoni proceeded to post five stops over the next 9:46 to maintain the scoreless tie.
Lebanon Valley's offense also generated another opportunity during the second period, as Wilk put a shot on goal that was saved at the 14:13 mark.
Norah McCauliffe followed this by contributing to the program's defensive efforts with a block 15:10 into the second. Frisoni then closed out the period with three more saves during the remaining minutes, while Nemani also recorded a block during this stretch.
The Dutchmen found the net 3:24 into the third period, taking a 1-0 lead over the Golden Wolves. The program went ahead on a shot into the back of the net by Howson, courtesy of an assist by Wilk. The opposition followed this by putting three shots on goal over the next 2:09, and Frisoni made saves on each attempt. Alvernia then scored on a goal by Marissa Caswell 5:40 into the third, tying the contest at 1-1. Lebanon Valley later went on a power play that started in the eighth minute, and Nemani, Howson, and Taylert each put a shot on goal over this span.
The Golden Wolves countered with some chances, and
Jess Dawe delivered a block for LVC at the 9:58 mark before Frisoni had a save at the 10:50 mark. Frisoni continued to battle as the third period rolled on, making a stop at the 14:10 mark before registering two saves during a penalty kill at the 15:35 and 16:09 marks. The Dutchmen also kept working to generate offensive opportunities as the end of regulation approached, as
Sky Campanile and Wolff each took a shot that was saved within 13 seconds in the 18
th minute. Wilk tallied a shot for the program as well, which was saved with 48 seconds left. Ultimately, the teams were tied at 1-1 at the end of the third period, sending the game into overtime.
Frisoni faced a shot on goal by Alvernia just 11 seconds into overtime, and the goaltender came through with the save. The Dutchmen responded with a scoring chance, as Anderson took a shot that was saved 35 seconds into the period. The opposition countered with two more attempts, and Frisoni posted a pair of stops for LVC within five seconds in the second minute. The Golden Wolves then scored 1:52 into overtime, winning the contest on a goal by Addy Gularte.

Lebanon Valley will then enter the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship as the third seed, and the program will face off against second-seeded Arcadia University in the MAC Semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Hatfield Ice Arena in Colmar, Pennsylvania.
