HERSHEY, Pa. – Goaltender
Mia Frisoni made 46 saves for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team, as the program dropped a 3-0 battle against Arcadia University on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Hersheypark Arena.
Julia Schafer also recorded a game-high five blocks during the contest.
The Dutchmen (13-5-1, 10-4-1 MAC) battled defensively early in the first period, as Frisoni made saves on the first two shots on goal of the night at the 2:42 and 2:47 marks.
Norah McCauliffe also contributed to the program's defensive efforts, blocking a shot attempt by the Knights (15-3-2, 13-2-1 MAC) 5:10 into the frame. Arcadia then opened the scoring 5:12 into the first, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brooklyn Hendrickson. This was followed by Frisoni facing a couple more shots, and the goaltender responded with two saves within seven seconds in the seventh minute. Lebanon Valley also worked to generate offensive opportunities during the period, as
Sky Campanile took a shot that was saved at the 8:27 mark and
Anna Dale had a try saved 9:12 into the period.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to post a strong defensive effort when the Knights went on a power play that began in the 10
th minute, as McCauliffe blocked a shot 9:46 into the first before Frisoni made a save at the 10:16 mark. Frisoni then proceeded to make seven saves through the remaining minutes of the opening period. The goalie delivered two of these saves at the 15:28 and 16:12 marks before
Chelly Wolff blocked a shot 16:21 into the frame, and
Laura Radford had a block at the 17:05 mark. Dale also tallied a block for LVC 10 seconds later.
Arcadia created more scoring chances when the second period began, but Lebanon Valley answered with five saves by Frisoni and blocks by Schafer and Dale within the first 5:21. Both of these blocks and two of the saves by Frisoni came while each squad had four skaters on the ice. The Dutchmen also sent the puck toward the net during the frame, as
Cheyenne Wilk took a shot on goal that was saved at the 5:30 mark while
Addison Taylert and
Tiffany Anderson each had an attempt saved within three seconds in the seventh minute. The Knights found the net again 7:26 into the second, taking a 2-0 advantage on a goal by Phoebe Roberts.
Lebanon Valley followed this with a shot on goal by Dale, which was saved 8:05 into the second period. Arcadia continued to tally shots as the frame progressed, but the Dutchmen came through with three more stops by Frisoni and blocks by Wolff and Schafer over the next 3:15. The goaltender also delivered a save for LVC at the 14:08 mark. The Knights then put another point on the scoreboard 14:39 into the second, making it a 3-0 contest on a power-play goal by Karahkwenhawe White. The Flying Dutchmen responded with an offensive opportunity, as Dale put a shot on goal that was saved at the 15:07 mark. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni made five more saves during the remainder of the second.
The Dutchmen kept competing on the defensive end when the third period got underway, as Frisoni had two saves while Anderson and Schafer each blocked a shot during the first 1:07 when the team was on a penalty kill. Lebanon Valley's offense also continued to battle, as Wilk took a shot that was saved 1:31 into the frame before Dale had a try saved at the 2:59 mark. Schafer then put a shot on goal that was saved 4:08 into the third, while Anderson and Taylert each had an attempt saved within 13 seconds in the eighth minute. Arcadia later countered with a pair of shots, and Frisoni came through with two stops within 22 seconds in the 11
th minute.
Lebanon Valley kept sending the puck toward the goaltender as the third period progressed, as Dale took a shot on goal that was saved at the 10:49 mark. Later in the frame, Wilk also recorded a shot that was saved 14:45 into the frame. Defensively, Frisoni kept working to limit the opposition through the rest of the game by making 10 more saves. The goaltender delivered four of these stops within the last two minutes, including her final save with seven seconds left. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the contest.
