Dutchmen Women’s Ice Hockey Battles Arcadia in Overtime Matchup

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– Leela Nemani and Addison Taylert each netted a goal in the third period for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team, as the program dropped a hard-fought 3-2 game to Arcadia University in overtime on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Hersheypark Arena. 

The Knights (8-2-2, 6-1-1 MAC) opened the scoring 54 seconds into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Chloe Makinson. The Dutchmen (9-3-0, 7-3-0 MAC) followed this with a productive defensive stretch, as goaltender Mia Frisoni made six saves while Norah McCauliffe, McKayla Romano, Taylert, Lauren Pennino, and Brysha Schmidt each blocked a shot over the next 4:31. Lebanon Valley's offense also created some opportunities, as Romano put a shot on goal that was saved at the 5:48 mark, while Anna Dale had an attempt saved 43 seconds later. Schmidt also took a shot that was saved at the 8:16 mark, and Addi Alaoui logged a try that was saved 9:46 into the first period. 

Back on the defensive end, Frisoni proceeded to deliver five more saves for LVC over the next five minutes. The Flying Dutchmen countered with a shot on target by Dale, which was saved 15:58 into the first frame. Arcadia later created some more scoring chances, but Lebanon Valley's defense answered with a save by Frisoni at the 17:22 mark and blocks Pennino and Nemani within 10 seconds in the 19th minute. The Dutchmen then took the last shot of the period, as Dale's try was saved as time expired. 

The programs went back and forth at the beginning of the second period, as each squad put one shot on goal during the first 6:46. Pennino then took a shot for LVC when the team had a 4-on-3 advantage, which was saved at the 7:12 mark. Defensively, Frisoni came through with five saves for the Flying Dutchmen over the next 5:04. Lebanon Valley also kept working to generate offensive opportunities as the second frame progressed, as Dale put a shot on target that was saved at the 12:53 mark. This was followed by LVC's defense continuing to battle during the rest of the period, as Rhiannon Price blocked a shot attempt by the Knights and Frisoni posted four more saves. 

The Dutchmen kept competing on the defensive end when the third period got underway, as McCauliffe and Abby Mak each blocked a shot while Frisoni registered two stops during the first 7:27 of the frame. Arcadia then scored on a goal by Maeve Hourihan at the 7:37 mark, taking a 2-0 advantage. This was followed by more shots from the Knights, which Frisoni saved at the 7:41, 9:29, and 9:39 marks. Lebanon Valley later began a power play in the 11th minute, which led to Tiffany Anderson putting a shot on target that was saved at the 11:21 mark.

Frisoni continued her efforts to limit the opposition as the third frame went on, recording more stops for LVC at the 14:32, 16:34, and 16:50 marks. The Flying Dutchmen then got on the board 17:01 into the period, narrowing the score to 2-1 when Nemani sent the puck into the back of the net for an unassisted goal. Lebanon Valley quickly found the net again at the 18:30 mark, tying the game at 2-2. The program evened the score on a clutch goal by Taylert, courtesy of assists by Anderson and Dale. Ultimately, the contest remained tied at the end of regulation, forcing overtime. 

LVC concluded the third period on a power play, prompting the program to have a 4-on-3 advantage during the first 1:40 of overtime. The Knights took the first two shots, and Frisoni made a save on the first attempt, 59 seconds into the frame, before delivering another stop at the 2:03 mark. Lebanon Valley countered with a shot on goal by Anderson, which was saved 2:32 into overtime. Frisoni proceeded to tally more important saves for the Dutchmen at the 3:39, 3:41, and 4:02 marks. Arcadia then scored on a goal by Haylee Kos with 17 seconds left in overtime, winning the game 3-2.

Inside the Box Score
  • Taylert scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season while blocking two shots on the defensive end. The sophomore has found the net in each of LVC's last three games. 
  • Nemani netted her fourth goal of the campaign, while winning nine faceoffs and blocking two shots. 
  • Anderson assisted Taylert's game-tying goal and won a game-high 14 faceoffs, while blocking two shots on the defensive end. 
  • Dale was also credited with an assist on Taylert's goal. The junior tallied a season-high six shots on target as well, which led the team. 
  • Frisoni made a game-high 36 saves. 
  • Lebanon Valley put 17 shots on goal. 
  • Defensively, the Flying Dutchmen had a 25-22 advantage in blocked shots. 
  • Pennino and Mak led the program with three blocks each. Pennino tied a season-high in blocks, while Mak logged her most blocks of the year thus far. 
  • LVC had a 29-26 advantage in faceoff victories.

The Flying Dutchmen have completed their schedule for the first semester. Lebanon Valley will return to action on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at 7 p.m., against Trine University for the first of two matchups at Thunder Ice Arena in Angola, Ind.
