Anderson Nets Goal for Women’s Ice Hockey in Series Opener at Hood

HAGERSTOWN, Md. ­­– Tiffany Anderson scored a goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team, as the program delivered a valiant effort while dropping a 3-1 contest to Hood College on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex.

The Dutchmen (7-2-0, 5-2-0 MAC) and the Blazers (2-3-2, 2-3-2 MAC) went back and forth early in the game, as each program put a shot on goal that was saved within the first 2:18. Hood then opened the scoring 2:50 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mia Cheesebrough. Lebanon Valley followed this by generating several offensive opportunities, putting 12 shots on target that were saved over the next 10:02. During this stretch, Addison Taylert took two shots, Camryn Crouch tallied two attempts, and Anna Dale had a shot during the sixth minute. 

The Blazers countered with a shot on goal 14:39 into the first period, which resulted in goaltender Mia Frisoni posting a save for the Flying Dutchmen. After penalties on both teams prompted each squad to have four skaters on the ice, Lebanon Valley created a pair of scoring chances when Anderson and Dale each logged a shot that was saved within nine seconds in the 16th minute. During this stretch on the defensive end, Frisoni posted two stops for LVC, and Taylert had a block. Frisoni also came through with a pair of important saves within 53 seconds in the 19th minute. Lebanon Valley later took the last shot of the period, as Dale registered a try that was saved just before the end of the frame.

The programs continued to compete defensively at the beginning of the second period, as each team had two shots saved within the first 3:20. Hood began a power play in the fourth minute of the frame, and Frisoni answered with two saves during a successful penalty kill for LVC. The goaltender also recorded two stops for the Dutchmen in the sixth minute, before making three more saves during the seventh minute. Lebanon Valley's offense followed this by putting six shots on target that were saved during a stretch of 3:02 that began in the seventh minute. During this span, Sky Campanile tallied an attempt, and Anderson had two tries within 43 seconds in the ninth minute. 

The Flying Dutchmen later began a power play in the 12th minute of the second period, and Taylert took two shots that were saved at the 13:10 and 13:25 marks, while Allison Guyer had an attempt saved at the 13:30 mark. Leela Nemani and Amy McKeigue then each had a shot saved within 26 seconds in the 15th minute, while Brysha Schmidt, Dale, Anderson, and Taylert each logged shots that were saved within 41 seconds in the 17th minute. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni closed out the second frame by delivering saves for LVC at the 17:26 and 19:27 marks.

Hood scored again 24 seconds into the third period, taking a 2-0 advantage on a goal by Sofie Ancona. The Dutchmen answered back 1:54 into the frame, narrowing the score to 2-1. The program made it a one-point game when Anderson sent the puck into the back of the net for a goal, following assists by Dale and Taylert. Lebanon Valley then went on a power play in the fifth minute, which led to Lauren Pennino and Schmidt each taking a shot that was saved within 29 seconds in the sixth minute, and Nemani having an attempt saved at the 6:27 mark. Frisoni kept working to limit the opposition as well, making saves for LVC at the 8:37, 8:52, and 9:31 marks.

The Flying Dutchmen also continued to send the puck toward the net as the third period progressed, as McKayla Romano and Abby Mak each had a shot saved within 26 seconds in the 11th minute. Campanile also put a shot on target that was saved at the 12:14 mark, while Dale and Pennino later had back-to-back attempts saved in the 16th minute during a power play. The Blazers then scored again on a goal by Ancona at the 18:48 mark, taking a 3-1 lead. Lebanon Valley proceeded to battle until the final minute, as Romano and Crouch put shots on goal that were saved within five seconds in the final minute. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the contest.

  • Anderson scored her fifth goal of the season while tying a game-high 13 faceoff victories.
  • Dale dished out her team-leading seventh assist of the campaign on Anderson's goal. 
  • Taylert was also credited with an assist on Anderson's goal. The sophomore led the program with six shots on target as well.
  • Frisoni made 27 saves during the contest. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Hood 46-30.
  • The Flying Dutchmen blocked eight shots on the defensive end. 
  • McKeigue, Crouch, and Campanile led the team with two blocks. Campanile set a career-high in blocks. 
  • Taylert and Maeghan Howson each blocked a shot. 
  • LVC had a 33-27 advantage in faceoff victories.

Lebanon Valley will return to the ice tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2:45 p.m., when the team will close out the weekend series against Hood at the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex.
