Five Dutchmen Net Goals in Women’s Ice Hockey’s Win at Alvernia

READING, Pa. ­­– The Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team received several contributions during its dominant 5-0 victory over Alvernia University, as five players scored goals for the program on Friday, Nov. 21, at Body Zone. 

Anna Dale and Mallory Burdick helped set the tone for LVC's win, finding the net during the first period. Addi Alaoui also scored a goal for the Flying Dutchmen (6-1-0, 4-1-0 MAC) before McKayla Romano and Allison Guyer added goals in the third period. Goaltender Mia Frisoni also delivered 32 saves during a shutout performance. 

The Golden Wolves (5-2-0, 4-1-0 MAC) generated some offensive opportunities early in the game, and the Dutchmen responded with four saves by Frisoni within the first 3:14. Lebanon Valley countered with a shot on goal by Tiffany Anderson that was saved at the 5:35 mark and an attempt by Alaoui that was saved at the 6:52 mark. This was followed by Frisoni posting two more saves for LVC at the 7:47 and 8:09 marks. The Flying Dutchmen then opened the scoring 9:02 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead. Lebanon Valley remained aggressive offensively as the first frame progressed, putting three more shots on target over the next 2:36. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni came through with more saves for LVC at the 12:17 and 13:11 marks. The Dutchmen found the net again at the 13:45 mark, taking a 2-0 advantage. The squad went ahead by two on a goal by Burdick, following an assist by Brysha Schmidt. The programs proceeded to go back and forth defensively through the end of the period, and Frisoni logged more stops for the Flying Dutchmen at the 14:21 and 18:30 marks.

Alvernia kept sending the puck toward the net early in the second period, but Frisoni answered with a pair of saves for Lebanon Valley within the first 2:20 of the frame. The Dutchmen countered with a shot on goal by Chelly Wolff, which was saved 3:45 into the first. This was followed by the teams battling on the defensive end, as neither side took a shot until Frisoni made a save at the 8:56 mark. The goaltender also registered a stop for LVC at the 11:17 mark during a successful penalty kill, before making another save 34 seconds later when the programs returned to even strength. The Flying Dutchmen kept working to create scoring chances as well, as Abby Mak had a shot saved at the 12:41 mark while Guyer's try was saved just over a minute later. 

The Golden Wolves went on another power play in the 14th minute of the second period, and the Dutchmen responded with a block by Anderson and a save by Frisoni during a successful penalty kill. LVC's offense followed this with a shot on target by Schmidt, which was saved at the 16:55 mark. Lebanon Valley then scored again 17:21 into the second period, taking a 3-0 lead. The team extended its advantage when Alaoui sent the puck into the back of the net for a goal after an assist by Leela Nemani

Frisoni faced more shots when the third period got underway, but the goaltender delivered two saves for the Flying Dutchmen during the first 39 seconds of the frame. Lebanon Valley then put another tally on the board 1:16 into the third, claiming a 4-0 lead. The squad's fourth goal of the night came when Romano netted a shot, courtesy of an assist by Campanile. Defensively, Frisoni went on to post seven saves for LVC over the next 7:24, including four stops during a successful penalty kill. 

Lebanon Valley's offense followed this with a couple of opportunities, as Nemani took a shot that was saved at the 9:36 mark, and Schmidt had an attempt saved at the 12:16 mark. The Dutchmen then added an insurance point 13:17 into the third period, making it a 5-0 contest. The program recorded its final goal of the evening when Guyer sent the puck past the goaltender, after assists by Nemani and Alaoui. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni made four more saves for LVC during the remaining minutes, including two stops during another successful penalty kill. Ultimately, Lebanon Valley went on to preserve its lead and secure the win.

  • Dale scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, which marked her team-leading third game-winner of the campaign. 
  • Alaoui tied a game-high two points, scoring her second goal of the year and dishing out an assist. 
  • Guyer recorded her first career point with her first career goal. 
  • Burdick netted her first goal of the year.
  • Romano scored her fourth goal of the season. The first-year also went 8-for-9 on faceoffs, tying for the team-high in faceoff victories.
  • Crouch tallied her first career point with an assist on Dale's game-winning goal. 
  • Taylert was also credited with an assist on Dale's game-winner.
  • Nemani tied a game-high and career-high two points by recording a game-high two assists, which matched her career-high. The sophomore also tied a team-high eight faceoff wins. 
  • Schmidt assisted the goal by Burdick. 
  • Campanile registered an assist on Romano's goal. 
  • Frisoni made a game-high 32 saves during her third shutout of the season. 
  • Lebanon Valley put 21 shots on goal. 
  • Dale and Schmidt tied for the team lead in shots on target with three each. 
  • The Flying Dutchmen and the Golden Wolves both blocked five shots on the defensive end. 
  • Crouch and Laura Radford tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two each. 
  • Anderson also blocked a shot.
  • LVC had a 27-25 advantage in faceoff victories.

Lebanon Valley will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m., when the program will take on Alvernia again at Body Zone.
