Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Taylert Powers Dutchmen Women’s Ice Hockey Past Chatham

HERSHEY, Pa. ­­– Addison Taylert recorded a game-high three points for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team in its home opener, helping propel the program to a dominant 4-0 victory over Chatham University on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Hersheypark Arena.

The Dutchmen (2-0-0) delivered some key defensive plays early in the first period, as Leela Nemani blocked a shot by the Cougars (0-2-0) at the 1:23 mark before Maeghan Howson blocked a shot at the 2:30 mark. Lebanon Valley then generated an offensive opportunity, as Tiffany Anderson put a shot on goal that was saved 3:23 into the game. LVC later went on a power play toward the end of the sixth minute, and Anna Dale put a shot on target that was saved at the 6:01 mark. The Flying Dutchmen then opened the scoring 8:04 into the first, taking a 1-0 lead. The program got on the board when Taylert netted a goal, courtesy of assists by Nemani and Addi Alaoui

Chatham countered with four shots on goal over the next 2:39, and goaltender Savannah Alexander delivered saves for Lebanon Valley on each attempt. The Dutchmen also continued to send the puck toward the net, as Sophia Scatena tallied a shot that was saved at the 11:17 mark, while Taylert had a try saved at the 13:04 mark. The Cougars then sent a puck toward the net 14:01 into the contest, and Alexander came through with a save for the Flying Dutchmen. This was followed by a few scoring chances for LVC, as Scatena had an attempt saved at the 14:28 mark, while Anderson and Allison Guyer each had a shot saved within six seconds in the 17th minute. Alexander posted another stop for Lebanon Valley at the 17:08 mark, which helped maintain the program's advantage through the end of the first period.

Chatham sent the puck toward the net at the start of the second period, and Alexander was there to make the save for LVC. The Dutchmen were also completing a power play at the beginning of the frame, and Anderson and McKayla Romano each put a shot on target that was saved during this stretch. The Cougars responded with a shot at the 1:34 mark, which was stopped by Alexander. Lebanon Valley found the net again 2:57 into the second, taking a 2-0 lead. The squad went ahead by two when Howson sent a shot into the back of the net for a goal, following an assist by Abby Mak. The Flying Dutchmen also remained productive on the defensive end as the period went on, as Alexander recorded three more saves over the next 8:50, including a stop at the 11:47 during a successful penalty kill. During this penalty kill, Camryn Crouch blocked two shot attempts while Dale and Taylert each blocked a shot as well. 

Lebanon Valley's offense also kept working to create opportunities, as Nemani put a shot on target that was saved at the 12:55 mark. Chatham followed this with three shots on goal within 21 seconds in the 14th minute, which resulted in three more saves for Alexander. The Dutchmen later took a pair of shots within 39 seconds in the 17th minute, as Howson and Romano's tries were saved. Alexander proceeded to tally three more saves for LVC during the remaining minutes of the second frame, including two stops within 33 seconds in the 18th minute.

Each program recorded two shots on goal within the first 2:29 of the third period, as the teams went back and forth early in the frame. The Flying Dutchmen also kept sending the puck toward the net, recording six shots on goal that were saved over the next 4:25. The program took three of these shots during a power play, including attempts by Norah McCauliffe and Alaoui in the sixth minute, and a try by Dale at the 6:45 mark. Lauren Pennino contributed to these efforts as well, putting a shot on target for LVC that was saved at the 6:54 mark. Lebanon Valley also continued to battle on the defensive end, as Amy McKeigue had two blocks, while Nemani blocked a shot during a 19-second stretch that began toward the end of the eighth minute. 

Chatham later went on a power play during the 10th minute, and Alexander made a save for LVC during this stretch at the 10:00 mark. The Dutchmen went on a power play in the 13th minute, and Alaoui took a shot that was saved at the 12:58 mark, before another penalty for the Cougars led to Anderson putting a shot on target at the 14:22 mark when the opposition had three skaters on the ice. Lebanon Valley then added a tally 14:45 into the third period, taking a 3-0 advantage. The squad extended its advantage on a power-play goal by Sky Campanile, after assists by Taylert and Dale. The Flying Dutchmen also tacked on an insurance point at the 16:13 mark, going ahead 4-0. The program scored its final goal of the afternoon on an empty-netter by Taylert, courtesy of assists by Dale and Anderson. LVC went on to preserve its advantage through the end of the game and secure the victory.

  • Taylert recorded a game-high three points to tie a career-high, scoring a career-high two goals and dishing out an assist. The sophomore's first goal of the year was the game-winner. Taylert also blocked a shot on the defensive end. 
  • Howson netted her first goal of the campaign in the second period. Defensively, the junior also blocked a shot.
  • Campanile scored her first goal of the season in the third period while blocking a shot on the defensive end. 
  • Dale tallied a game-high two assists while blocking a shot. 
  • Alaoui dished out her first career assist on Taylert's game-winning goal. 
  • Mak logged her first career point with an assist on Howson's goal. 
  • Nemani was also credited with an assist on Taylert's game-winning goal. The sophomore won 12 faceoffs as well. 
  • Anderson had an assist on Taylert's second goal. The senior also posted a game-high 13 faceoff wins.
  • Alexander made 21 saves and recorded a shutout in her first collegiate game. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Chatham 39-21. 
  • Taylert, Anderson, and Howson tied a game-high five shots on goal. 
  • Defensively, the Flying Dutchmen blocked 11 shots. 
  • Nemani, Crouch, and McKeigue each blocked two shots. 
  • Laura Radford also blocked a shot.
  • LVC had a 32-24 advantage in faceoff victories.

The Dutchmen will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m., when the team will open its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) schedule against Neumann University at Ice Works Rink #4 in Aston, Pa.
