Women’s Ice Hockey Earns Win at Neumann in Conference Opener

ASTON, Pa. ­­– The Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team began its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) schedule with a dominant 6-0 victory over Neumann University on Friday, Nov. 7, at Ice Works Rink #4. Anna Dale posted a game-high four points for LVC, while Tiffany Anderson recorded three points and Addison Taylert had two points. 

The Dutchmen (3-0-0, 1-0-0 MAC) generated some offensive opportunities early in the first period, putting three shots on goal within the first 2:02 of the frame. The program registered two of these attempts during a power play, as Anderson had a shot saved at the 1:49 mark while Sky Campanile's try was saved 13 seconds later. The Knights (0-3-0, 0-1-0 MAC) countered with a shot on goal at the 3:06 mark, which resulted in goaltender Mia Frisoni making a save for LVC. Lebanon Valley continued to send the puck toward the net as the period went on, putting five shots on target over the next 4:25. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni then delivered five more saves for the Flying Dutchmen over the following 2:55. The goaltender made three of these stops during a successful penalty kill for Lebanon Valley, including two saves within 19 seconds in the 10th minute.

The Dutchmen opened the scoring 10:46 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead over Neumann. The program got on the board when Maeghan Howson sent a shot into the back of the net for a goal, courtesy of assists by Chelly Wolff and Mallory Burdick. Lebanon Valley also kept tallying shots as the frame progressed, as Anderson, Addi Alaoui, Norah McCauliffe, and Wolff each put an attempt on goal that was saved during the next 3:58. The Flying Dutchmen also remained productive defensively through the end of the first, as Frisoni made another save at the 16:29 mark while McCauliffe blocked a shot 24 seconds later. Laura Radford also had a block at the 19:27 mark. 

Lebanon Valley and Neumann went back and forth early in the second period, as each program put two shots on goal that were saved within the first 4:42. After the defenses of both squads proceeded to keep each other from putting a shot on target for over three minutes, LVC went on a power play eight minutes into the frame. The Dutchmen found the net 8:05 into the second, taking a 2-0 advantage. The squad went ahead by two when Anderson netted a power-play goal, following an assist by Anna Dale. Lebanon Valley quickly scored again at the 9:22 mark, going up 3-0 when Dale sent an unassisted goal into the back of the net. 

The Flying Dutchmen added yet another tally 9:38 into the second period, claiming a 4-0 lead over the Knights. The team scored its third goal in a stretch of 1:33, when Anderson sent the puck past the goaltender after an assist by Taylert. Neumann later responded with a shot on target at the 12:02 mark, and Frisoni came through with a stop for Lebanon Valley. The Dutchmen then went on a power play during the 15th minute, and Lauren Pennino, Taylert, and Dale each put a shot on goal during this stretch. This was followed by the Knights going on a power play, and Frisoni made a save at the 16:50 mark while LVC was on a penalty kill. Offensively, Lebanon Valley put four more shots on target during the rest of the second frame. Radford, Abby Mak, and Anderson contributed to these efforts, putting a shot on goal each within 38 seconds in the 18th minute.

The Dutchmen remained aggressive offensively when the third period got underway, putting four shots on target during the first 4:29. Lebanon Valley then scored again 5:20 into the third, making it a 5-0 contest. Dale extended the program's advantage by netting another goal after assists by Anderson and Radford. The Knights followed this with a couple of shot attempts, and LVC answered with blocks by Camryn Crouch and McCauliffe, within 34 seconds in the seventh minute. Frisoni proceeded to post a save for the Flying Dutchmen while Howson and Burdick each had a block, within 35 seconds in the eighth minute. Later in the frame, Neumann went on a power play in the 10th minute, and Frisoni registered two more saves within 20 seconds.

Lebanon Valley tacked on an insurance point 10:24 into the third period, advancing the score to 6-0. Taylert put the program ahead by six by sending a short-handed goal past the goaltender and into the back of the net, courtesy of an assist by Dale. The Knights later completed their power play, and McKayla Romano blocked a shot attempt by the opposition at the 11:20 mark, during this penalty kill for the Flying Dutchmen. LVC followed this by putting 10 more shots on goal during the remaining minutes of the game, including seven attempts during power plays. Ultimately, the Dutchmen went on to preserve their lead through the end of play and secure the victory.

  • Howson scored her second goal of the season, which proved to be her first game-winner of the campaign. The junior also won five faceoffs and blocked a shot on the defensive end. 
  • Dale scored her second and third goals of the year, while dishing out two assists. The junior's two goals marked a season-high and tied a game-high, while her four points set a season-high and game-high. 
  • Anderson netted her first two goals of the campaign while assisting Dale's second goal. The senior's two goals tied a game-high and career-high. Anderson also won a game-high 13 faceoffs and blocked a shot on the defensive end. 
  • Taylert recorded her third goal of the season while logging an assist. The sophomore's goal was the first short-handed goal of her career.
  • Wolff and Burdick were credited with assists on Howson's game-winning goal. 
  • Radford also tallied an assist on Dale's second goal. 
  • Frisoni made 14 saves during her second shutout performance of the year. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Neumann 47-14.
  • The Flying Dutchmen blocked nine shots on the defensive end. 
  • McCauliffe led the program with two blocks. 
  • Crouch, Romano, Mak, Burdick, and Radford also had a block each. 
  • LVC had a 32-18 advantage in faceoff victories. 
  • Leela Nemani went 8-for-11 on faceoff opportunities, and Romano went six-for-seven on faceoffs. 
  • Lebanon Valley has outscored its opponents 13-0 during its first three games of the season.

The Flying Dutchmen will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., when the program will host the Knights at Hersheypark Arena.
