Seniors Lead Dutchmen to Postseason with Dominant Victory over King’s

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley field hockey team received significant contributions from all three seniors on Senior Day at Arnold Field on Saturday in a 9-0 victory over King's College. The win enabled the Dutchmen to clinch a spot in next week's Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championships.

The Dutchmen (11-7, 4-3 MAC Freedom) will be the fourth seed in the conference tournament after a dominant performance where they didn't allow a shot or penalty corner. Seniors Rebecca Lane and Gracie Johnson combined for two goals and four assists, while Amelia Taube locked the defensive effort.

LVC earned the first corner of the game in the opening minute. Danika Setlock had a shot saved from the top of the circle, and Lauren Foster's rebound attempt was kicked away as well by the Monarch keeper. The Dutchmen earned another corner a couple of minutes later and capitalized with the first goal of the game. Abby Rodenberger sent a shot from the left wing that was redirected into the back of the cage by Foster. The Dutchmen kept the offense going as Rodenberger had a pair of shots saved in the sixth minute. Lane had a shot blocked off a corner before Claire Weidenhammer was able to knock in a rebound off a Jillian Tait shot for the game's second goal. Weidenhammer scored again two minutes later to put the Dutchmen up 3-0 just over midway through the first quarter.

The lead increased to 4-0 in the 12th minute as Lane sent a pass into the circle where Lilah Shaub blasted a shot into the back of the cage. The Dutchmen scored their fifth goal of the quarter in the 13th minute on a penalty corner. Johnson scored her seventh goal of the year off a pass from Lane after Johnson inserted the corner. The Dutchmen scored another penalty corner goal in the 22nd minute as Shaub scored her second goal of the game off an assist by Johnson. Lane had a shot saved and a shot go wide as Lebanon Valley went into halftime with a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

Madison Brewer took the first shot of the second half, which was saved. Maggie McAteer had a shot saved, as did Joanna Ehrhart in the first five minutes of the half. Brewer found the back of the cage in the 36th minute to push the lead to seven with her third goal of the season. Taube nearly scored a minute later as she was denied on a shot in the course of play, and then the King's keeper was able to stop a penalty stroke attempt. Taube would earn a second stroke attempt in the 39th minute with the Monarch goalie coming up with another big stop, using her stick to keep the ball out of the cage. Weidenhammer completed her second career hat trick in the 42nd minute as she scored her conference-leading 18th goal off an assist by Lane. The Dutchmen maintained their strong play through the fourth quarter while subbing players on and off the field. Lane scored the final goal of the game in the 58th minute to set the final score.
