OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Lebanon Valley football team dropped its third heartbreaker of the season as a last-second field goal attempt sailed just wide in a 15-13 defeat at Stevenson University on Saturday at Mustang Stadium in Maryland.
LVC (4-4, 4-3 MAC) kicked off to start the game, and after a muffed return, the Mustangs (5-3, 4-3 MAC) started the drive with the ball at their own four. Stevenson rushed for a first down on two plays before a penalty and a sack by
J.D. McCallion forced the Mustangs to punt.

Avrey Grimm rushed for 10 yards on two plays. Klitsch had a couple of short passes, including another first-down pass to Heisey that got LVC into field goal range. The Dutchmen were unable to get the ball inside the 20 and settled for a 38-yard field goal attempt on their first drive. The kick sailed wide as Stevenson took over at their own 21. The Mustangs used up the remaining 6:11 of the clock in the first quarter to drive the ball to the LVC 14 using 11 plays.
Stevenson took the lead two plays into the second quarter, ending the long drive with an eight-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was off the mark to keep the score at 6-0. LVC answered right back with Klitsch completing four passes, including a 37-yard strike to
Trey Freeman that put the ball at the one. The Dutchmen handed the ball off to Freeman for a one-yard touchdown run.
Brian Dym made the extra point to put the Dutchmen ahead. The Mustangs countered with another long drive as they drove the ball 54 yards down the field on 11 plays. They had a touchdown called back due to an offside before the LVC defense came up big and got four stops in a row.
Maxwell Wisensale made a tackle 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage on fourth down at the four to give the Dutchmen the ball back with 4:32 left in the half. Klitsch broke off a 28-yard run on the first play of the drive. The Dutchmen were able to get over midfield before the two-minute timeout. Stevenson was able to stall the drive there to head into the half trailing by one.
Klitsch began the second half with a pair of completions to Freeman. The Dutchmen used the clock and drove the ball down to the 22 before a fourth-down pass to Heisey was broken up. Stevenson took the ball and used a mixture of runs and passes to get into field goal range. They capped off a 13-play 62-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes off the clock with a 33-yard field goal to take a 9-7 lead. LVC punted on their next drive to give the Mustangs the ball back as the game headed into the fourth quarter.
Stevenson scored on the first drive of the quarter with a 34-yard touchdown pass to take a 15-7 lead.
Luke Ordway blocked the extra point attempt.
Adam Acker caught a 34-yard pass on the second play of LVC's next drive. Grimm rushed for seven yards, and the Klitsch hit Acker for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The Dutchmen opted to go for two, and a rush attempt by
Cameron Hirshman was stopped. The defense came up with a big play when they needed it, as
Alex Brown made a tackle just shy of the first down marker on fourth down to give LVC the ball at their own 19 with 3:46 on the clock. Klitsch got the Dutchmen over midfield with a 20-yard run and an 11-yard pass to Grimm. LVC moved the ball down inside the 30 on a couple of short passes and a couple of short runs. Klitsch took two shots at the end zone in the final minute, setting up a 29-yard field goal attempt with seven seconds left. The kick sailed just wide of the post as Stevenson hung on for the home victory.
Inside the Box
- Klitsch had 224 yards passing and 55 yards rushing. The quarterback completed 20 of 35 passes with a long of 37.
- Freeman scored his first rushing touchdown of the season and finished with a team-high 68 yards receiving on four receptions.
- Acker scored his second receiving touchdown of the year and had 65 yards on four receptions.
- McCallion led the defense with eight tackles, including a five-yard sack.
- Ordway had seven tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss and one blocked kick.
- 11 of LVC's 19 first downs during the game were on passing plays.

The Dutchmen will host Alvernia University next Saturday, Nov. 8, for Senior Day at Arnold Field. Kickoff against the Golden Wolves is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
