Dutchmen Football Posts Senior Day Victory Over Alvernia

ANNVILLE, Pa. The Lebanon Valley College football team celebrated Senior Day by delivering a dominant 38-7 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Arnold Field.

The Golden Wolves (0-9, 0-8 MAC) received the opening kickoff, and the Dutchmen (5-4, 5-3 MAC) responded by posting a defensive stop on the first drive of the game. Alvernia faced second and four on its own 41-yard line, and Sheadan Makosy delivered a sack for LVC, which resulted in a loss of 11 yards. This key defensive play led to the Golden Wolves eventually punting the ball away with 12 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Lebanon Valley remained productive defensively as the opening frame progressed, limiting Alvernia's next drive to just nine yards on six plays during a stretch of 2:45, which came to an end with 7:36 to go.

The Flying Dutchmen got on the board with 3:09 left in the first quarter, taking a 7-0 lead. The program opened the scoring after a drive in which Avrey Grimm came through with a key 43-yard rush. Quarterback Logan Klitsch also completed an 18-yard pass to Tommy Delgado when LVC faced third and 12 at Alvernia's 26-yard line, securing a first down. Lebanon Valley then scored when facing second and one on the Golden Wolves' one-yard line, and Deakon Schaeffer rushed one yard up the middle for a touchdown. Brian Dym followed this by converting the extra point attempt. The Dutchmen kept battling on the defensive end as well, forcing the opposition to punt on its next drive after a three-play, seven-yard series. On the first play of the sequence, Alvernia attempted to rush to the right, but Owen Chernich delivered a tackle for a loss of six yards.

Lebanon Valley made another trip to the end zone early in the second quarter, taking a 14-0 advantage with 12:01 remaining. The program faced second and 12 on the 50-yard line, and Klitsch completed a 20-yard pass to Alex Vassallo for a first down. Later, the drive was capped off with a six-yard rushing touchdown up the middle for Grimm, before Dym made the PAT. LVC's defense followed this by prompting the opposition to punt at the end of a three-play, seven-yard drive that lasted just 1:36. The Dutchmen then put together another strong drive offensively, returning to the end zone after a 10-play, 51-yard drive that provided the program with a 21-0 lead. The squad scored again when Klitsch threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Adam Acker in the left corner of the end zone, while Dym made the extra point with 5:47 left.

Lebanon Valley's offense quickly returned to the field, as the team attempted an onside kick and Taijay Brown recovered the ball for the Flying Dutchmen. LVC took advantage of this important play and scored with 4:13 to go in the opening half, going up 28-0. During this drive, the Flying Dutchmen faced third and seven on the Golden Wolves' 48-yard line, and Klitsch completed a 20-yard pass to Ethan Heisey for a first down. The team then made it to the end zone with a 28-yard touchdown rush by Dion Bryant, and Dym converted the PAT. The Dutchmen took this commanding lead into halftime.

The Dutchmen continued their strong defensive performance in the third quarter, prompting the Golden Wolves to punt with 7:27 remaining after a four-play, 19-yard drive. Lebanon Valley's offense then recorded a 14-play, 90-yard drive that resulted in the squad taking a 35-0 lead. During this series, Klitsch had an important 17-yard rush, while Grimm had a key 14-yard rush. The sequence concluded with Klitsch rushing two yards into the left corner of the end zone for the touchdown. Garrett MacClay then converted the extra point for LVC with 26 seconds left.

Alvernia had the ball at the start of the fourth quarter, and Lebanon Valley's defense limited the opposition to just one yard during a four-play drive before being forced to punt. Back on offense, the Flying Dutchmen proceeded to register an 11-play, 54-yard drive. This sequence concluded with Dym making a 20-yard field goal to put LVC ahead 38-0 with 8:44 remaining on the clock. The Golden Wolves responded by completing a pass that resulted in an 80-yard touchdown, which was followed by a successful PAT to narrow the score to 38-7 with 7:42 to go. Alvernia also started a drive with less than two minutes left, which ended when Dakota Baublitz delivered an interception on a second-and-eight pass at Lebanon Valley's 43-yard line, with 1:21 remaining.
