GLENSIDE, Pa. – Gavin Rapp scored two goals for the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team in its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener, as the program tied Arcadia University in a 4-4 battle on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion. LVC received contributions from several players during the contest, as four Flying Dutchmen recorded at least one point.
The Knights (5-2-5, 0-0-1 MAC Freedom) took the first shot of the afternoon, and goalkeeper
Ryan Simonette delivered a save for the Dutchmen (6-1-4, 0-0-1 MAC Freedom) 2:21 into the game. Arcadia tallied another attempt at the 3:52 mark, which went above the net. This was followed by a Knights' shot that was saved by Simonette at the 5:17 mark, and another try that was blocked by LVC's defense 14 seconds later. Will Burton put a shot on target that was saved 6:43 into the first half. The programs proceeded to go back and forth on the defensive end, as neither squad took a shot for nearly seven minutes.
Nathan Prex took a shot on goal for the Flying Dutchmen at the 13:42 mark, which was saved.
Andrew Myers then took a shot for LVC that went over the upper-right corner of the net at the 19:44 mark, while Burton had a shot saved 24:21 into the contest. This was followed by strong defense from both teams for nearly 10 minutes, as neither side took a shot during this stretch.
Arcadia put a shot on target 34:03 into the opening half, which resulted in another stop by Simonette. The Knights then sent an attempt above the net at the 35:07 mark. Lebanon Valley countered with a shot by
Brayden Burkhardt that went to the right of the goal 37:37 into the stanza. Arcadia later took the last shot of the first, kicking the ball off the crossbar at the 42:30 mark. The programs went into halftime in a 0-0 tie.
The Knights took the first shot of the second half on a free kick, and Declan Kelly scored a goal to give the program a 1-0 lead at the 50:15 mark. The Dutchmen kept working to generate offensive opportunities as the game went on, as Burton logged an attempt that went to the right of the net at the 51:13 mark. This was followed by a shot for Arcadia, which was blocked by LVC's defense 55:07 into the contest. Lebanon Valley also kept competing on the offensive end, as Prex had an attempt saved at the 59:46 mark.
Arcadia took a shot at the 63:25 mark, which was blocked by the Flying Dutchmen. The Knights then took a 2-0 advantage, as Alex Chyzowych scored a goal 65:34 into the game. The Dutchmen answered right back 23 seconds later, narrowing their deficit to 2-1. Lynch got the squad on the board by taking a shot from near the penalty arc and sending the ball into the lower-left corner of the net for a goal. Prex dished out the assist on Lynch's goal. Lebanon Valley's offense continued to battle as the second stanza progressed, as
Ben Kolarek sent a shot above the net at the 69:41 mark, Prex had a try saved at the 70:22 mark, and Rapp took a shot that went to the left of the net at the 71:03 mark. Arcadia followed this with a try that also went to the left of the goal at the 74:54 mark.
Lebanon Valley found the net again 75:28 into the game, tying things up at 2-2. LVC was taking the ball toward the net, and Arcadia's goalkeeper went toward the top of the penalty box to retrieve it. Just before the ball got to the goalie, Rapp kicked it forward and then sent a header shot into the center of the net for a goal. The Knights responded with a penalty kick goal by Sean Lock, going ahead 3-2 at the 77:43 mark. Arcadia took another shot at the 79:24 mark, which went to the left of the net.
The Flying Dutchmen answered once again at the 80:05 mark, adding a tally to even the score at 3-3. Lynch delivered an excellent pass from the left side of the field to just beyond the center of the goal box, leading to Rapp's shot into the lower-right corner of the net for his second goal of the day.
Jack Bowman also contributed to LVC's offensive efforts, taking a shot that went to the left of the goal 81:18 into the contest. Lebanon Valley scored again at the 82:10 mark, taking a 4-3 lead over Arcadia. Prex sent a shot from the middle of the penalty box into the lower-right side of the net for a clutch goal, courtesy of an assist by
Simon Grimes.
The Dutchmen kept sending shots toward as the contest rolled on, as
Charlie Kramer put a shot on target that was saved at the 84:25 mark. The Knights countered with a pair of shots on goal, and Simonette came through with saves on both of these attempts. Arcadia then scored on another goal by Lock, tying the game at 4-4 with 2:04 remaining. Lebanon Valley continued to deliver a valiant effort in the final minutes, as Prex took a shot that went to the right of the net with just 1:07 left. Ultimately, the match ended in a 4-4 tie.

- Rapp scored a season-high two goals to tie a game-high. The forward now has three goals this season. Rapp's first career multi-goal performance provided him with a season-high four points. The first-year also tallied three shots with two attempts on goal.
