Women’s Soccer Defeats FDU-Florham for Fourth Straight Win

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– Abrielle Miller scored two goals while Megan Ressler and Jayme Beninda each recorded three points, leading the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over FDU-Florham on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Herbert Field. 

The Dutchmen (11-1-2, 2-0-1 MAC Freedom) generated some offensive opportunities early, taking five shots during the first 9:16. Beninda attempted the first shot of the day, sending the ball above the net three minutes into the first half. Mikhaela Sartor followed this with a shot on goal for LVC, which was saved at the 4:47 mark. Alison Sepkovic then logged an attempt that went to the right of the net, and Jordan Lasky had a try that went to the left of the goal, within 36 seconds in the seventh minute. Kalei Noonan also contributed to Lebanon Valley's scoring efforts, sending a shot above the net at the 9:16 mark. The Devils (5-6-3, 0-2-1 MAC Freedom) countered with a shot that went to the left of the net at the 12:02 mark. FDU-Florham also took a shot on target 13:08 into the stanza, which resulted in a save for the Flying Dutchmen by goalkeeper Camryn Porter.

LVC continued to send the ball toward the net as the first half progressed, as Miller put a shot on goal that was saved at the 13:45 mark. The Dutchmen then opened the scoring 15:41 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead. Beninda took a shot from the back of the penalty box, which went into the lower-right side of the net for a goal. Ressler dished out the assist on the first goal of the afternoon. FDU-Florham later created a pair of offensive opportunities, tallying a shot that was blocked by Lebanon Valley's defense at the 22:46 mark before Porter made a save for LVC at the 24:56 mark. 

The Flying Dutchmen also kept taking shots as the opening half went on, as Lasky put an attempt on goal that was saved 28:32 into the game. The programs proceeded to battle defensively for over 16 minutes, as neither squad took another shot until there were 22 seconds to go. Lebanon Valley added a tally before the break, taking a 2-0 advantage at the 44:38 mark. Miller prompted the team to take a two-goal lead into halftime, when she took a shot from behind the penalty box and sent the ball into the lower-left corner of the net for a goal.
 
The Devils got on the board with the first shot of the second half, narrowing the score to 2-1 on a goal by Emma Letizia at the 53:20 mark. The Dutchmen answered right back with a goal 55:08 into the contest, going ahead 3-1. Beninda started the scoring play by sending a cross from the left side of the field to the center of the penalty box, and Miller found the lower-left corner of the net on a header shot for her second goal of the day. Chloe Moser followed this with a shot that went above the net 57:03 into the game, while Ressler put an attempt on target that was saved 55 seconds later. 

FDU-Florham later took a shot on goal at the 65:36 mark, and Porter came through with a save for Lebanon Valley. This was followed by the teams going back and forth defensively until Noonan sent a shot over the upper-left corner of the net 73:24 into the contest. Beninda then had an attempt go to the left of the net at the 78:54 mark, while another shot by the midfielder went to the right of the goal at the 85:04 mark. The Dutchmen later tacked on an insurance goal with 1:31 remaining, prompting 4-1 to be the final score. Inside the Box Score
  • LVC's fourth consecutive win extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. 
  • Miller tied a career-high two goals, bringing her season total to nine. The junior's first goal was her fourth game-winner of the campaign, which is the most in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom. Miller has recorded a point in each of LVC's 14 games so far this year.
  • Ressler logged a career-high three points to tie a game-high, recording her first goal of the season and an assist. 
  • Beninda tied a game-high three points with her fourth goal of the year and an assist. The first-year now has seven assists this fall, which is tied for the most on the team. Beninda also took a game-high four shots. 
  • Bowman assisted Ressler's goal. 
  • Porter made three saves during the win. 
  • Lebanon Valley outshot FDU-Florham 17-6 and had an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Miller also posted a game-high three shots on target 
  • Lasky and Sartor each had a shot on goal as well. 
  • LVC had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lebanon Valley will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m., when the program will travel to take on DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.
