MADISON, N.J. – Claire Weidenhammer scored four goals to power the Lebanon Valley field hockey team to another dominating conference win as the Dutchmen defeated host FDU-Florham 9-0 on Saturday evening at Robert T. Shields Field in Madison, N.J.
The Dutchmen (9-5, 2-1 MAC Freedom) finished off a dominant week by limiting the Devils (7-7, 1-2 MAC Freedom) to three total shots. Weidenhammer took the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, putting her attempt wide. The Devils also put a shot wide in the fourth minute. FDU blocked shots by
Rebecca Lane and Weidenhammer before LVC was able to get on the board in the ninth minute.
Reese Arnold sent a pass to Weidenhammer, who scored her third goal of the week to put the Dutchmen ahead. The Devils were able to get another shot off in the 13th minute during the first penalty corner of the game, though the attempt was off the mark. LVC earned a corner at the other end with
Madison Brewer having a shot saved and
Lilah Shaub sending the rebound attempt wide. A minute later, Lane had a shot knocked away by the goalkeeper as the Dutchmen battled to add another goal on before the end of the quarter. That goal came with 46 seconds left as Shaub found the back of the cage for the second time this week.
Lebanon Valley kept the pressure on the Devils and dominated possession for the second quarter, while taking five shots and holding the Devils without one. Tait had a shot saved that led to a penalty corner in the 20th minute. The Devils were able to stop the Dutchmen from getting a shot off on the corner attempt. Tait was able to get another shot on goal that was saved in the 21st minute.
Gracie Johnson gave LVC a 3-0 advantage in the 28th minute as she found the back of the cage after a rebound of a Lane shot that was saved.
The teams battled in the defensive-minded third quarter with only four shots taken over the 15 minutes. LVC took the first three, as
Lauren Foster and Weidenhammer had shots saved. The Devils earned a penalty corner late in the period. The Dutchmen's defense held strong, but late in the 44th minute, FDU-Florham was able to put a shot on goal.
Emma Mitchell, who replaced
Ella Weidenhammer in goal earlier in the quarter, made her first collegiate save on the first shot she has faced in over 90 minutes of action.
The Dutchmen's offense exploded in the fourth quarter with six goals on 16 total shots. Weidenhammer got the scoring started in the 50th minute with her second goal of the game.
Maggie McAteer scored the first goal of her career two minutes later to make it a five-goal game. Weidenhammer scored quick back-to-back goals 30 seconds apart to increase the lead to seven before Johnson added a goal in the 56th minute off a feed by Lane. Brewer wrapped up the scoring in the 57th minute with her first career goal.
Inside the Box
- The Dutchmen were two goals off the school record of 11 while recording a season-high 20 points on nine goals and two assists.
- The last time LVC scored at least nine goals in a game was in 2018 when they recorded a 10-0 victory over Lancaster Bible and outshot the Chargers 21-0.
- Weidenhammer has scored at least two goals in three of the past four games. Her career-high four goals on 11 shots give her 13 goals on the season and 35 in her career.
- Johnson scored two goals for the second time this year. Her first goal was the 25th of her career.
- McAteer and Brewer each scored the first goals of their careers while Shaub scored her third.
- Lebanon Valley had a 33-3 shot advantage, including 22-1 in shots on goal. The Dutchmen also had the advantage in penalty corners at 7-2.
- Ella Weidenhammer and Mitchell combined for the team's sixth shutout of the season. Weidenhammer, who was second in the MAC Freedom in save percentage prior to the game to FDU-Florham's goalie, now leads the conference in goals against average, goals allowed, and save percentage.

The Dutchmen will look to avenge last year's MAC Freedom semifinal defeat on Wednesday, Oct. 22, as the team welcomes Arcadia University to Arnold Field for a 7 p.m. start. The game will also serve as the team's Hidden Opponent Awareness Game.
