ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley field hockey team put together another dominant conference win as
Danika Setlock recorded a season-high five points to power the Dutchmen to a 6-0 victory over Arcadia on Wednesday evening at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen (10-5, 3-1 MAC Freedom) went right after the Knights (2-13, 0-4 MAC Freedom) from the start, bringing the ball into the circle within the first 20 seconds of the game. Arcadia was able to keep the Dutchmen from getting off a shot on the circle entry. LVC earned the first penalty corner of the night in the fifth minute as
Gracie Johnson inserted the ball. She received a pass back from the top of the circle, and her shot was saved. The Dutchmen were awarded another corner, and this time
Claire Weidenhammer had her shot blocked, leading to another corner. Setlock nearly scored in the sixth minute as her blast off a corner was saved. A second attempt by the first-year went wide.
LVC kept the pressure on the Knights and broke through in the 10th minute off a corner.
Rebecca Lane sent a pass to Setlock, who found the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season. The Dutchmen nearly scored a couple of minutes later as
Lilah Shaub got a shot past the keeper, but an Arcadia defender was there to keep the ball out of the back of the cage. Tait had a pair of shots saved while
Abby Rodenberger and Weidenhammer had shots blocked as the Knights were able to get out of the quarter, only down one.
Arcadia came out strong to begin the second quarter as they earned a corner in the first minute. They took their first shot of the game off the corner as
Ella Weidenhammer came up with a big save. LVC settled into a groove, and Tait put a shot on goal in the 18th minute. Lane missed wide in the 19th minute, and
Lauren Foster had a shot saved in the 22nd minute. The Knights were awarded another corner in the 23rd minute, where they got another shot off that went wide of the cage. The Dutchmen doubled their lead in the 26th minute as Lane scored her sixth goal of the year off an assist by Setlock. Rodenberger had a shot blocked in the final minute of the half as the Dutchmen went into the break up by two goals.
The Dutchmen came out firing in the second half as Weidenhammer missed wide and then Foster had a shot blocked. Setlock had a pair of shots saved before Foster had a shot saved in the 36th minute. Setlock scored her second goal of the game in the 37th minute as
Joanna Ehrhart found her open to make it 3-0.
Ella Weidenhammer made her second save of the game in the 42nd minute as the Knights got a shot off a penalty corner. Tait took the last shot of the quarter in the 43rd minute as the Knights' keeper made a save to keep it a three-goal deficit.
Setlock nearly scored her hat trick to begin the fourth as her shot was saved on a nice play by the Arcadia keeper. Tait had a pair of shots saved before the Dutchmen exploded for three goals in the final six minutes. Weidenhammer had a shot saved off a penalty corner, and Tait was there to knock in the rebound for her sixth goal of the year. Less than a minute later, Weidenhammer scored off a rebound following a
Madison Brewer shot. As the game wound down, Weidenhammer missed on a shot, grabbed the rebound, and sent a pass to Brewer for her second goal of the year with nine seconds left.
Inside the Box
- Setlock recorded a career-high five points on two goals and one assist. It is her second multi-goal game of the season. She took a team-high eight shots and put six on goal.
- Lane had three points on one goal and one assist. The senior has recorded an assist in each of the past three games.
- Claire Weidenhammer scored her team-leading 14th goal of the season. She has scored in five of the last six games and leads the conference with seven goals in conference play. She also added an assist for three points
- Tait and Brewer scored goals off the bench. Tait scored her sixth goal of the year on seven shots while Brewer scored her second on three shots.
- Ehrhart recorded her third assist of the season.
- The Dutchmen had a 35-4 shot advantage, including outshooting the Knights 11-0 in the first quarter and 11-1 in the fourth.
- Amelia Taube led a strong defensive effort and made her fifth defensive save of the year.
- Ella Weidenhammer made two saves in the first 52 minutes before Emma Mitchell came in for the final eight. The duo posted the team's third consecutive shutout and seventh of the year.
- The Dutchmen have outscored opponents 34-2 in October.
Up Next
LVC will head north to Dallas on Saturday for a big matchup against Misericordia University. The Cougars are currently tied with Stevens Institute of Technology for first place in the conference at 4-0. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Mangelsdorf Field.
