DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley field hockey team completely shut down the Aggies of Delaware Valley University to earn a 4-0 victory on Wednesday evening in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game at Robert Lispinski Field.
Joanna Ehrhart scored her first career goal in the 12th minute for the Dutchmen.
The Dutchmen (8-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) put together one of their most dominant performances of the season against the Aggies (6-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom) as they did not allow a single shot. LVC's offense put pressure on the Aggies from the beginning of the game and did not relent for 60 minutes.
Claire Weidenhammer took the first shot of the game in the sixth minute, with her attempt sailing wide of the cage.
Gracie Johnson inserted the first penalty corner of the game in the 10th minute as
Jillian Tait had a shot attempt blocked, and then
Lauren Foster sent a shot wide. A minute later, Weidenhammer put a shot on goal that was saved. Ehrhart gave the Dutchmen the lead in the 12th minute with a smooth give-and-go on the right side with
Lilah Shaub. Ehrhart ripped a shot into the back of the cage for her first career goal. The Dutchmen stayed on the attack as Tait put a shot on goal that was saved to keep the score 1-0 after the first quarter.
Rebecca Lane took the first shot of the second quarter, but her attempt was blocked in the 19th minute. LVC earned a corner late in the 22nd minute. Tait had a shot blocked, and then the rebound by Weidenhammer was kicked away by the keeper. A foul ended the threat for the Aggies. The Dutchmen forced a turnover, and Lane dribbled the ball towards the circle. She sent a cross to the middle of the circle that went off the stick of Foster. Weidenhammer approached the loose ball and fired a cannon into the back of the cage from 12 yards out for her first goal of the game.
Madison Brewer had a shot saved in the 27th minute before the Dutchmen put a flurry of shots on goal in the final minute of the half. Johnson inserted a penalty corner in which
Abby Rodenberger had a pair of shots saved. Johnson and Weidenhammer kept the pressure on the keeper with shots that were saved before Weidenhammer found the back of the cage for the second time to put LVC up 3-0 heading into the half.
LVC earned a pair of corners in the 33rd minute.
Reese Arnold and Foster had shots blocked off each corner. The Dutchmen were awarded two more corners in the 36th minute. DVU held the Dutchmen without a shot on the first, but Weidenhammer found space on the second to rip off a shot that was saved. The squad added more pressure in the 38th minute as Foster had a shot blocked, and then Tait's attempt was saved. The Dutchmen took one more shot over the final seven minutes of the quarter, with Foster missing wide in the 42nd minute.
Both teams subbed in new goalies to begin the fourth quarter. The Dutchmen earned an early corner with Tait sending a shot wide off the attempt in the 47th minute. Lane had a shot blocked a minute later.
Maggie McAteer had a pair of shots saved in the 55th minute against her former team before Weidenhammer had a shot blocked and a shot saved a minute later. The Dutchmen added another insurance goal in the final minute as Lane sent a pass into the circle where Shaub flicked a one-timer into the left corner of the cage from eight yards out.
Inside the Box
- The Dutchmen had a 29-0 shot advantage in the game. It is the first time LVC has held an opponent without a shot since October 15, 2021, when the Dutchmen defeated Hood 5-0 and outshot the Blazers 21-0.
- Ehrhart scored her first career goal on her 10th career shot. The game-winner was her only shot of the game.
- Weidenhammer scored two goals for the second time this season. The junior had a game-high nine shots and put seven of them on goal. The junior has scored in three of the past four games.
- Shaub had a goal and an assist off the bench. The forward scored her second goal of the season and recorded her first career assist.
- Lane recorded her team-leading fifth assist of the season while Rodenberger was credited with her third.
- LVC had an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners.
- Ella Weidenhammer and Emma Mitchell combined for the team's fifth shutout of the season.
- LVC improved to 4-0 all-time against the Aggies. The Dutchmen have outscored DVU 13-0 in the four games including 4-0 victories each of the past two meetings.
