ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Nathan Prex scored a goal for the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team for an eighth consecutive game, as the program battled tough in a 1-1 tie with Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Ira R. Herr Field.
The Dutchmen (6-1-3) and the Blue Jays (3-5-2, 0-0-1 Landmark) went back and forth defensively early in the game, as neither team took a shot for over five minutes at the start. Lebanon Valley then created a pair of scoring chances, as Prex put a shot on goal that was saved 5:55 into the first half, and
Nathan Kimball sent the ball above the net at the 7:38 mark. The programs followed this by competing on the defensive end for over 15 minutes, until Prex had two shot attempts blocked within four seconds in the 24
th minute.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to tally shots as the opening half progressed, as
Ben Ammon sent a shot over the upper-left corner of the net 24:55 into the contest. Kimball then put a shot on target for LVC, which was saved at the 27:15 mark. The squads proceeded to battle defensively for over 14 minutes, as neither side registered a shot during this stretch.
Elizabethtown followed this with a couple of offensive opportunities, logging an attempt that was blocked by Lebanon Valley at the 41:25 mark before sending a shot off the crossbar at the 43:05 mark. The Blue Jays then got on the scoreboard first with an own goal 43:07 into the game, prompting the team to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Dutchmen worked to generate offensive opportunities when the second half got underway, as Prex sent a shot to the right of the net at the 46:07 mark and had a try go above the upper-left corner of the net at the 47:49 mark. Elizabethtown countered with a shot that went above the net 48:37 into the matchup. Lebanon Valley responded with a shot by
Andrew Myers that went high at the 51:15 mark, and an attempt by
Will Burton that was saved at the 55:37 mark. Burton also had shots blocked at the 61:17 and 62:45 marks.
Nathan Newson contributed to LVC's offensive efforts as well, putting a shot on target that was saved 67:52 into the contest. The Flying Dutchmen then found the net at the 72:25 mark, tying the game at 1-1. The program evened the score when Prex sent a shot into the lower-right portion of the net for a goal.
Prex continued to send the ball toward the net as the second half went on, tallying a shot that went to the left of the net at the 77:26 mark before the senior had a try blocked at the 78:36 mark. Lebanon Valley followed this with a shot by
Ben Kolarek 79:06 into the game, which went to the right of the net. The Dutchmen and the Blue Jays then went back and forth on the defensive end for over 10 minutes, until there were 14 seconds left on the clock. LVC battled through the remainder of play and took the final shot of the night, as
JJ Porter sent the ball above the net at the 89:44 mark. Ultimately, the game concluded in a 1-1 tie.
