Women’s Ice Hockey Sets Single-Season Wins Record with Victory at Hood

HAGERSTOWN, Md. ­­The Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team set a single-season program record for victories with its 13th win of the 2024-25 campaign, as the team defeated Hood College 6-2 on Friday, Jan. 31, at the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex. LVC received contributions from several players during the victory, as six Dutchmen netted goals.

The Dutchmen (13-4-1, 10-3-1 MAC) opened the scoring just 1:23 into the first period, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Blazers (4-14-1, 2-12-1 MAC). The program struck first on a shot into the back of the net by Leela Nemani, courtesy of an assist by Jess Dawe. Lebanon Valley continued to generate offensive opportunities as the frame progressed, tallying 11 shots on goal that were saved over the next 6:42. Tiffany Anderson and Nemani each took a shot on goal that was saved while Cheyenne Wilk had two attempts saved when LVC was on a power play during this stretch. Hood later countered with back-to-back shots on goal, but goaltender Lacy Bigelow responded with a pair of saves for the Flying Dutchmen within three seconds in the ninth minute.

Lebanon Valley kept sending the puck toward the net as the opening period went on, as Chelly Wolff, Howson, and Addison Taylert each registered a shot that was saved within 24 seconds in the 13th minute. Later in the first, Erin Yorke tallied an attempt that was saved at the 14:54 mark while LVC was on another power play. The Dutchmen proceeded to take five more shots on goal during the remaining minutes of the frame, including three tries by Nemani. The program also kept dominating the possession through the end of the first, prompting the squad to keep the opposition from taking a shot on goal after the ninth minute.

The Flying Dutchmen continued to record shots when the second period got underway, as Nemani had back-to-back attempts that were saved during the first minute. The Blazers responded with some scoring chances, but Bigelow came through with a stop at the 3:37 mark before making five saves within 30 seconds in the sixth minute when LVC was on a penalty kill. The goaltender also delivered important saves for Lebanon Valley at the 6:46, 8:00, and 9:04 marks. This was followed by Norah McCauliffe and Yorke, blocking a shot attempt by Hood within 15 seconds near the end of the 10th minute.

The Blazers got on the scoreboard 10:00 into the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a goal by Sofie Ancona. The Dutchmen answered right back at the 10:29 mark, taking a 2-1 advantage. The team went back ahead on a goal by Sky Campanile, following an assist by Maeghan Howson. Hood followed this with some more shots, and Bigelow delivered a stop for the Flying Dutchmen 11:17 into the period before making another save 15 seconds later. The goalie also posted saves at the 12:37 and 14:11 marks while LVC was on a penalty kill. Lebanon Valley also kept working to create scoring chances as the frame progressed, as Wilk and Campanile each took a shot on goal that was saved within 24 seconds in the 17th minute. The second period was capped off with an attempt by Hood with 10 seconds left, and Bigelow came through with the save.

The Dutchmen recorded more shots on goal in the third period, including attempts by Yorke, Wilk, and McCauliffe while the program was on a power play that began in the third minute. Lebanon Valley later started another power play in the sixth minute and took advantage of the opportunity to go up 3-1 at the 6:47 mark. Howson found the net for a power-play goal, after assists by Anna Dale and Yorke. Hood then attempted a shot 6:54 into the third, and Anderson came through with a block for LVC.

The Flying Dutchmen scored again 9:24 into the third period, extending their lead to 4-1 on a power-play goal by Yorke following an assist by Anderson. Lebanon Valley also continued its offensive clinic as the frame progressed, tacking on another tally to make it a 5-1 contest 10:16 into the period. The program went ahead by four on a goal by Taylert, courtesy of an assist by Dale. The Blazers then answered back at the 10:58 mark, narrowing the score to 5-2 on a goal by Dakota Ormiston.

Lebanon Valley's offense got this point back 11:43 into the third period, providing the squad with a 6-2 advantage on a goal by Anderson. Dale and Taylert were credited with assists on the final goal of the evening. The Dutchmen proceeded to battle defensively through the end of the game, as Bigelow saved all five shots on goal she faced during the remaining minutes. The goaltender logged two important stops for LVC within 10 seconds in the 14th minute. Hood then took its last shot of the night with just 1:17 remaining and Bigelow made her 25th save, helping secure the 6-2 victory for the Flying Dutchmen.

  • Lebanon Valley has won 13 games this season, which sets a program record.
  • Howson scored her sixth goal of the season, which also marks her second game-winner of the winter. The sophomore dished out an assist on the goal by Campanile as well.
  • Yorke netted her fifth goal of the campaign and had an assist on Howson's goal. The senior also led the team with three blocks on the defensive end.
  • Anderson scored her seventh goal of the season and tallied her team-leading 12th assist on Yorke's goal. This also sets the program record for assists in a season. 
  • Taylert recorded her third goal of the winter while logging an assist on Anderson's goal.
  • Nemani scored her fourth goal of the season.
  • Campanile found the net for the fifth time during the campaign.
  • Dale registered a game-high and career-high three assists. The sophomore now leads the conference with 27 points this season.
  • Dawe dished out the assist on Nemani's goal.
  • Lebanon Valley outshot Hood 54-27.
  • Nemani also led the team with a game-high 10 shots on goal.
  • Bigelow made 25 saves during the victory.
  • The Dutchmen blocked seven shots on the defensive end.
  • McCauliffe had two blocks as well.
  • LVC was successful on both of its penalty kills.
  • The Flying Dutchmen had a 30-24 advantage in faceoff victories.
  • Anderson had a game-high 19 faceoff wins, tying a season-high.
