ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Field Hockey team had four different goal scorers in a 7-3 victory at Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in the first road game of the year.
The Dutchmen started the scoring early as the offense took advantage of a penalty corner just under two minutes into the game.
Claire Weidenhammer found the back of the cage for the third time this year off a feed from
Sorrell Long to put the Dutchmen up 1-0.
Jenna Angstadt had her attempt saved in the sixth minute as LVC controlled possession early on. Long gave the Dutchmen a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute with her second penalty stroke goal of the season.
Eastern cut into the lead a minute later with a rebound goal as the Dutchmen were defending a penalty corner opportunity. LVC nearly scored early in the last minute of the quarter as
Lauren Foster had her shot past the keeper but a Eagles defender was able to keep it out of the back of the cage.
Long scored her second goal of the game in the 20th minute with the Dutchmen playing a woman down because of a green card. The Dutchmen continued firing at the cage with Angstadt having a pair of shots saved and then Long had her shot off a corner saved by the EU keeper. The Eagles finished the half strong and earned a penalty stroke in the final minute that went wide.
Strong defense by the Eagles prevented LVC from increasing the lead early in the third quarter as Angstadt had a shot saved by a defender and
Lexi Ward had a shot blocked.
Abby Rodenberger scored her first goal of the year in the 42nd minute to make it 4-1 and less than a minute later Long completed her hat trick with her third goal off an assist by
Reese Arnold.
Weidenhammer scored her second goal of the game just under four minutes into the fourth quarter for her second multi-goal game of the year. Ward added to the lead in the 53rd minute off an assist by Foster. The Eagles were able to score twice in the final five minutes to cut the advantage to 7-3.
