READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer Team delivered a valiant effort in its road matchup against Alvernia University but dropped a 2-0 game on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Alvernia Turf Field. Goalkeeper
Camryn Porter made an impact for the Dutchmen defensively by recording 11 saves.
Lebanon Valley generated an offensive opportunity early, as
Gabby Hansson sent the ball toward the net 3:33 into the match for the first shot on goal of the night. The Golden Wolves then opened the scoring 4:25 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tayler Flaherty. Alvernia registered another shot attempt 11:05 into the first half, but Porter was there to make the save for LVC.
The Dutchmen continued to battle defensively as the opening stanza progressed, as the squad worked to limit the opposition. Porter logged six more saves during the remainder of the first half, including stops at the 21:55 and 24:29 marks. Lebanon Valley also kept creating chances on the offensive end, as
Abrielle Miller fired a shot toward the net that was saved 25:41 into the frame.
Darrian Berkheimer contributed to these efforts as well, taking a shot with just 3:25 to go in the first. The programs maintained the score through the conclusion of the half, prompting Alvernia to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Golden Wolves resumed the scoring 4:14 into the second half, taking a 2-0 lead on another goal by Flaherty. Alvernia continued to tally shots as the game went on, but Porter made a pair of saves for LVC within a stretch of 2:08 that began in the 55
th minute.
Kalei Noonan also contributed defensively for Lebanon Valley, making a clutch sliding stop to prevent a goal from scoring 57:38 into the match. Porter later made her 11
th save of the night 72:35 into the contest.
The Flying Dutchmen kept competing until the final minute, as the squad worked to create scoring chances. Miller sent the ball toward the net twice in just under two minutes, during a stretch that began in the 76
th minute, but both of these attempts were saved. The sophomore forward took another shot for LVC that was stopped with 4:05 left in the match. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the 90
th minute.
