ANNVILLE, Pa. – Darrian Berkheimer scored the game-winning goal for the Lebanon Valley College Women's Soccer team on Senior Day, as the program defeated Widener University 3-1 for its fifth straight victory on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Herbert Field.
Jordan Lasky also played a pivotal role in the win, netting two goals for LVC.
The program held a Senior Day ceremony before the game to recognize Berkheimer, who is the team's only senior. The Dutchmen (5-3-0) were aggressive offensively from the start of the match, taking six total shots within the first 9:34. Four of these shot attempts were put on goal, including three by Berkheimer. The Pride (4-5-0) then countered with their first shot of the afternoon at the 9:51 mark, which resulted in a save by goalkeeper
Camryn Porter. Lebanon Valley kept working to generate scoring chances as the first half progressed, as
Alison Sepkovic took a shot that went to the left of the net 14:42 into the stanza.
Widener opened the scoring 19:07 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Erin Quinn. The Flying Dutchmen answered right back, as the squad found the net 1:45 later, tying the game at 1-1. The program evened the score when Lasky sent a shot past the diving attempt of the goalie and into the right corner of the net, following an assist by
Chloe Moser.
LVC continued to battle offensively as the opening half went on, as Berkheimer took a shot on goal that was saved at the 29:37 mark. The Pride also sent a shot toward the net that was saved by Porter 38:53 into the first. The last attempt of the half was a shot by
Abrielle Miller that was saved with 1:58 to go. The programs entered halftime with the score even at 1-1.
Lebanon Valley resumed the scoring 8:48 into the second half, extending its advantage to 2-1. The team went ahead on a goal by Berkheimer that ended up in the left corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by Miller. LVC continued to generate offensive opportunities as the stanza rolled on, as Miller and Lasky each took two shots within a period of 23 seconds during the 57
th minute.
The Dutchmen then tacked on an insurance point at the 58:17 mark, making it a 3-1 game. Lasky sent the ball into the left corner of the net for her second goal of the day, after another assist by Miller. As the second half progressed, Lebanon Valley also continued to deliver a strong defensive effort. LVC held the opposition to four total shots during the remaining 31:43 of the match. Widener took just one shot on goal in this final stretch, and Porter made a stop on the attempt with 1:49 left. The Flying Dutchmen went on to preserve their lead and secure the 3-1 victory.
