Dutchmen Men’s Soccer Posts Victory Over Alvernia Behind Offensive Clinic

ANNVILLE, Pa. Ben Ammon was one of several players who made an impact for the Lebanon Valley College Men's Soccer team, as he scored a goal and dished out two assists in the squad's big 6-1 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Herbert Field.

The Dutchmen (6-4-0) generated offensive opportunities early in the first half, taking three shots within the opening 4:39. The program's first shot on goal of the day came at the 3:38 mark, as Tyler Snavely took a shot that was saved near the top of the net. Lebanon Valley then got on the scoreboard 8:35 into the match, taking a 1-0 lead over the Golden Wolves (5-3-2). LVC registered another shot attempt just 25 seconds after the goal, as Prex took a shot that was saved nine minutes into the contest. The Flying Dutchmen found the net again at the 19:34 mark, extending their advantage to 2-0. Aaron Weitzel put the team ahead by two by firing a shot into the back of the net, following an assist by Lucas Strange.

Lebanon Valley was also productive defensively, preventing the opposition from taking a shot on goal for over 31 minutes at the start. Alvernia sent the ball toward the net at the 31:48 mark, but goalkeeper Dalton Fitterling was there to make the save. The goalie made another important stop for LVC 32:42 into the opening half. The Dutchmen then kept their big offensive day going at the 34:11 mark, making it a 3-0 game. Simon Grimes kicked the ball into the right side of the net, after an assist by Logan Hicks. LVC took this three-goal lead into halftime.

The Flying Dutchmen picked right up where they left off when the second half began, taking a 4-0 lead 56:52 into the contest. Prex took the ball past the goalkeeper and sent it into the lower-right corner of the net, following an assist by Strange. The Golden Wolves countered with shots on goal at the 62:52 and 64:40 marks, and both of these attempts resulted in stops by Fitterling. Alvernia later got on the board 69:06 into the game on a goal by Zander Templeton, narrowing the score to 4-1.

Lebanon Valley responded with another tally at the 78:52 mark, claiming a 5-1 advantage. Weitzel netted his second goal of the day with a shot that got past the diving attempt of the goalkeeper and into the right side of the net, courtesy of an assist by Ammon.
